If anybodys dog gets shot for worrying livestock the owner of the dog should be shot as well for not training it properly. It tended to be the old school type keepers or farmers that used to be bad for shooting dogs belonging to tresspasers now days i dont think they need the hassel.atvb

Over the past couple of years a few dogs around my village have been shot for being somewhere they shouldnt be- this is arable farming but we have alot of gamebirds out.

One ,a GSD,was shot up the backside for running onto a field(where the owner had permission to walk dogs) by someone training a spaniel to retrieve rabbits.

The dog subsequently died but nothing was ever done about it- seemed a tad OTT for my liking

A guy I knew was shot and killed for lamping about 20 year ago!

Used to hear of dogs being shot and people being shot at a lot when I first started out but not so much these days thankfully.

Been shot at twice, years ago, sure it wasn't aimed directly at me but when your on your toes and you hear that 'whistle', see twigs shredding and the bang, it's f*****g close enough and I didn't stop to look back!

Never had a dog shot at, wouldn't be to happy if I did!!

the law states that a land owner can shoot a dog if its seen attacking livestock and then they must do all they can to stop it before the can shoot it

Ive had to shoot a dog before, it had killed 7 sheep/big lambs and was going for more.... It was the only thing I could have done, and im not a farmer. A dog killing/worrying livestock can be shot, and for no other reason can/should a dog be shot.

When pheasants/game are still in the pens, they are classed as livestock, so if a stray dog got into a pen and was killing birds it could be shot. Once released, the birds are no longer classed as livestock.

Spot on, all my dogs have been stock broken. If my dog did stray on to other land to catch a rabbit, with sheep or with out sheep. And if some body could see my dog was no prob to sheep, and still shot him :o . I would end up in Jail=prison, and the other bloke would end up in Hospital  Fact . Every dog i have owned=kept lurchers other breeds, lurchers 25years, other breeds 15 years. I HAVE taken to stock [sheep.cattle,....] since they were 10 week old pups - to 15 months old, and i still take them every other day now what ever the [Age]. So as you can See, i make a [big] effort to train them. So if some C**t shoots my dogs , i will put that C**t in A.E not a threat FACT.
