rats every where

Recommended Posts

theres a farm i shot at till recently as the farmer has left and im waiting for a call off the new owners that has a good head of rats ,me and my mate would pull up at the gate and you would allways take a couple out before opening the gate ,as you walk up to the barn you are surrounded by potatoe boxes about 6 high and in the barn it was the same ,full with boxes with rats in that were very quick once they new you were aproaching ,there was also a pile of corn which had been damaged in all the bad weather with a sheet onit ,at first we would sit there waiing for ratty to appear ,but this was slow progress shooting ,one day my mate shone a torch under the boxes ,they were only about 6 inches off the ground but bingo there they were just staring at us and they didnt seem to run either ,this is where our hunting tactics changed ,all we had to do was sprinkle a bit of corn to get the rats near the front of the boxes as they were as many deep as high, leave for 5 minutes and keep walking around farm with a lamp on the gun day or night shine it under which was a bit awkward ,sort of neeling but your head was by the concrete and the rats didnt know what hit em except me it was a 177 accupell from me s410 ,all of a sudden we would average 20 rats in a couple of hours ,it was so good the farmer would follow us about some times ..our next problem was sorting the rats from under a sheet lay on the corn which would leg it when the sheet was pulled off ,it was on there while a blower dried the corn or somethin like that ,dont worry the corn was for pig feed .we solved this problem by asking the misses for a pair of tights ,you can imagine her face :icon_redface: ,what the hell do you want those for ,well i said were going to tape a leg to the end of a piece of drain pipe and trap rats as they leggit along the walls in this barn ,well i aint got none she said so she asked her mum ,make sure you explain i said .so anyway we left the pipes for a few days along walls so they get used to running through em then one evening we whent armed with guns and this box of mother inlaws tights :D .and when they legged it through the pipe to our amazement it worked and they were dangling in the bottom of the tights :clapper::clapper: you see theres allways more than one way to skin a rabbit

didn't the ratcatcher in phil drabble's(i think) book(can't remember which one) used to put tights over the holes when he was ratting...

as long as it gets results and keeps your permission safe, who cares,

and i bet you've put an idea into a few peoples heads

you could have sold them live in the old'un days for the ratting pits

Done the same thing but ratting, and used a can with both ends cut out, pop a smoke pellet (plumers ones) down the hole with a stick and when they run in the tight grab the end swing it round slam it on the floor or wall. then reset, had a few like that.

good work
