Ton up

Recommended Posts

we took just over the ton season before last, granted not with one dog, but the night in question was on ground where the keeper lamps every night, but for foxs only, the rabbits had learnt, to there mistake, that lamps didnt mean danger, they just claped down... on the night we started at 9ish and were finished by 12, only covering 6 or 7 parks, the estate is about 3000 acres so you can guess how much land was untouched... on ground like this, with rabbits behaving like they do, a ton would be possible for a supremely fit dog with a SENSIBLE man at the end of the slip... i would try it but as i only keep bull crosses , and as we all know they aint rabbiting dogs, lol..........

who knows if it will be done again, as long as were all happy with the numbers we get on the ground we run then who really cares

happy hunting :)

i think it would be hard to do now as thair aint the same amout of rabbits about that their was in the 70s/80s /90s.

Or the same dogs, or the same lads..

nope because the dogs are dead and the men that had them are living the past...theres still plenty game about and good dogs... that will fill a bag or two....

:clapper: yes its about on par with hanckock, or M...... :clapper:

question who puts this crap up,, and then these young so called hunter/ computer op, and before you know it has snowballed, but for Mr, chartpolski a seasoned campainer, to advocate such utter nonesense, what I was trying to put over the condition of the dog just stop and think how much running the dog would have to do,, of course the rabbits roll over and says here i am come and take me,, how many times have you heard the dog can only take every other night, and he is NOT coming home with that magical figure of 100 in total, I hope this subject is closed and the serious fellows on this site answer the many questions thats put up by the younger genaration, and enjoy your dog,

Border Lad; a question was asked, I gave an answer in all honesty !! You choose to not believe my answer, thats your perogative. What I said was 100% true, you call it utter nonsense. I was there, you were not. It wasn't my dog, I have no need to lie about it. I have advocated nothing, only related something which happened over 30 year ago. And please, drop the "Mr"; Chartpolski or C.P. will do.

Cheers.

Well I find myself actually agreeing with Chartpolski, I told of it being done by 2 lads 1 dog each doing 187 rabbits in one night, they planned the night for a long time until the conditions were right to take a big number of rabbits, they lived on opposite sides of the country and travelled to meet up, they both kept their dogs in peak condition biking them 7-8 miles a day, wild rover added that they were lamping regularly 3/4 nights a week and taking up to 50+ rabbits a night they were that dedicated and knew what they were doing.

I wont mention them by name without asking first, one had a dog called merle bitch called Cleo, the other bred an early litter of ACDxgreyhound around Cumbria

of course you agree with C.p. you are backing each other up, 30 years ago I would have raced any man in this country with my dog my dog then was a dog called Shep Or dog called Blue both collie greys, all round dogs due to the fact NO MOBIL PHONES, AND MOST DOG MEN WERE NOT ON THE PHONE AT HOME, CONTACT MADE THROUGH THERE LOCAL, OR THERE LOCAL CORNER SHOP, iT WAS A PLEASURE FOR ME TO RUN MY DOG AGAINST ANOTHER GOOD ONE, AND SADLY MOST OF THE DOG MEN i KNEW ARE NO LONGER HERE, I am saying to you and CP, and all the other doubters the dog is not born yet that can do 100 rabbits in a night, and also what is this magical figure of 100, a Lurcher to me is filling the pot or the freezer, unless you are on Pest control, I saw another member Gyppo, requesting for anyone to come and show him how to catch sutch a large number

and he said he has some very good land to go on, I posted a photo of my new pup on this forum only the two lads that I know complimented, the click remained silent, but the proof is when that pup becomes a dog then I put him up against another good dog in a competition that is the proof and only then, I close my case,

OOPS, I have just looked at my original post on this thread and it can easily be read the wrong way!! The night in question there were two dogs running, My Bob and Mr Raford's Becky. I dread to think what kind of condition a dog might find itself in after running and catching that many bunnies; taking into account the dog must miss some!! Sorry if any one read my post the wrong way. Regards warren

Hey matie, is that Mick Radfords Becky?

Hello doxhope, I hope you are well. Yes it was Micks Becky, I dont think you should have put Micks full name up!! Thats why I was calling him Mr Radford. Afterr adding that, I honestly dont think Mick will mind. Regards warren

Border lad maybe if you had put the topic in the correct section instead of the game fairs and events section a few more people may have posted compliments about your pup.

the tackle 30 years ago consisted of a motorbike battery and car spot lamp, which by todays standards were pretty dismal, go on then tell me whos still managing to lamp with them? same people that will be using trannies to locate ferrets? ;)

yes It was my mistake that was my first photos posted on here and probably my last, I realy see the Click that the member gyppo was talking about I would have thought a hunting forum would relish photos sent in from Members, but I will be around when this lamping competition comes round take note of the accumlative numbers that are posted and they will Not get near the 100 mark,,
