i personally wouldn't bother with swimming as fitness routine, fine for lesuire or change but not to sort the dogs fitness, road work were the dog is constantly going at the same pace either by with you walking or jogging or next to a bike, this tones the muscles better then off lead where the dog will trot a bit stop and sniff and wonder etc

however this shouldn't be instead of a walk, as this is good for training and bonding with the dog, retrive work and the odd gallop on pursuit helps of course and lamping is fantastic as it also helps keep the dog intune with its quarrey and prevents the dog from being rusty at beginning of season or over keen which can both be a problem

hope this helps mate bring on next season

I sit at the top of a bill hill and throw the ball down the hill so dog has to bring it back up said hill i find this works well.a good run with other lurchers is excellent too.My only moan is that my male chases the dog rather than the ball not always but when he does its annoying and my bitch ends up telling him off he shouts back and then we have a tantrum
