v-max 2
If you know people that shoot in your area just try & approach them & ask to tag along & tell them you want to learn more about it all. Try get into beating as this can give you a good sense of it & meet others.
Rhys_i_bey 0
Right! ive got permission to hunt on land so im allowed to go buy a gun cabinet and a rifle and ammo with my dad and i have to be taken to the hunting grounds with adult supervision is this correct?
scotrat 2
No thats not correct it will take you about 3-4 months to gain the permission for the Shotgun cert or firearms cert. You can't buy any gun or ammo without a certificate. You will need to do some more research and my advice would be to do a year or 2 with an airgun and actually try and learn about firearm safety before applying for any cert the Police will ask you all sorts of questions and you need to be ready for them. You will need to try and get a mentor to learn you the basics and hopefully learn you to respect your quarry whatever it is
langouroux 14
Rhys...your more than keen i think a lot of people can see this, fair play to you i hope you get the support you want from parents etc. i started out with a air arms s310 air gun...it was awesome i wish i still owned it! i could shoot rabbits out to 40 yards no problem with it, it was quiet and didn't spook the other rabbits...you could shot 5 or 6 before they all bolted for cover in broad day light. if you get granted a license for a shot gun, you will probably have a much smaller kill ratio! going out with a shotgun for someone your age with out supervision just isn't going to happen...i wouldn't have thought, although im not sure on the actual laws. but you will probably have a better luck shooting stuff with an air rifle and not get in any trouble if you are sensible! so what you need to do is: decide if you want a shot gun, or go for an air rifle then, ring middlemoor police fire arms unit 01392 452880 they will tell you if you can own a shotgun and when, where and how you can use it. if you can get a license and decide to go for shot gun then look on www.guntrader.co.uk As for ammo go to your local mole valley or if you are near exeter then go to sportsman gun centre as they stock loads of guns and ammo you'll love it there! .....for rabbits, pigeon etc a number 6 shot is fine. If you can get a shot gun licence you should only need £150 to get you going for a basic side by side or over and under. as for air rifle, i love air arms, and i always used air arms ammo in all of my air guns. My advice is mate.....if you go for an air gun it will set you up for owning a live round rifle in the future, you will kill loads of rabbits, squirrels and whatever else, they are cheap to run and no license required.....you could sling it over your shoulder and cycle to whatever ground you had permission if you wanted! if you want any other info just message me or get your dad to ring me 07772 112103
Young Chud 1
if you are keen to getting into country pursuits do some research in your local area of what shoots are going on most of us are lucky enough to be brought up with it but my suggestion is to find out what shoots are going on in your area and go beating during the winter months not only is it great fun it will really get you started to see what goes on first hand
Deker 3,478
There is some useful and some bull info above, you sound a young keen and nieve lad. Talk to the BASC, if you are not a member you will need to join some organisation and get some insurance, you will do a lot worse than the BASC. A Certificate is required for a Shotgun but you do NOT need ANY shooting land to get a SGC. At your age with apparently no experience life is not going to be that easy.....chill out and do the research!

Young Chud 1
hi mate. start at the bottom get an air rifle and just pop some bunnys on some permission you can gather from farmers ect id also try and contact local keepers and get beating for them its always good to get in with the keepers then you might even get a few shots in the end on beaters day.
jazz_11 5
hello mate its good that you want to get into shooting but you really really need to do some reading, i was 16 when i got my shotgun license theres a fair bit you need to read about its not just as easy as going to a shop and buying one.. does anyone in your family shoot? maybe slow down with the guns and have a look at ferrets first they will get u out the house and catching rabbits... best of luck with it
stubby 175
if he had wanted to ferret, would'ent he be asking that instead jazz take the advice of others here mate, as ferreting would probably cost more in the long run, a shotgun could probably be picked up cheaper than a ferret locator, before all the other equipment,
