Fat-Ferret 857
What do most Long Netters on here prefer to use...Quick set, Traditional with fibreglass, or Traditional with Hazel? I have been learning a lot about Long Netting and doing a drop or 2 any night possible over the last while, I used a traditional with fibreglass poles, with some shrink tube on them to grip the line, a quick set also with fibreglass rolled up in my hand, then one with a basket and more recently, I put together a 50 yrd and used hazel sticks...Just in honour of tradition! And I have to say, After using Hazel for a few times, I think I will stick to a traditional Hazel set net...It just seems right. The Long netting game is definitely one Im glad I got into...I cant think of anything more satisfying than going out alone on a dark night, running out the net on Hazel sticks and leaving as quiet as you came under the cover of darkness, with a rabbit or two over your shoulder. The next stage is to sew a net....Only then will I have a traditional net. Quote Link to post

Tiercel 6,986
Has to be traditional and hazel for me, as you said, there is nothing like the feeling you get when you leave with a few rabbits, although numbers are unimportent. It feels like you have taken on the rabbits on their terms and won. Theres no feeling like it. The only way it can get better is when you do it with a net you have made yourself. Fat-Ferret 857
There is just something I enjoy about it more than anything else, Of course I enjoy ferreting, snaring, trapping, shooting....But as I said, there is just something about Hazel sticks with a 50yrd hanging on them...and banting the field, trying your best to take your time and all along wondering whats going to be in the net when you get there! And even more than that, you can come and go, and nobody ever need know you where there, no trace....Ye olde Long Netter! Edited June 10, 2009 by Fat-Ferret Quote Link to post

It's not about numbers, its about being out there and doing it. One rabbit can give as much pleaseure as 20, even more pleasure sometimes when it is really hard won from a difficult set. I think there are two types of long netter, the ones that do it for the pure pleasure of the sport and the ones who just see it as another method in their armoury. I cannot begin to describe the pleasure I get from a couple of drops of the net. TC Quote Link to post

TC Definitely, I enjoyed nights better when I came home with one or two....rather than the one night I got a big bag Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
I'm getting lazy now'a days, so tend to use a 100yd quickset with fibreglass poles, much prefer traditional off pins, but just like the ease of qucksets. Quote Link to post
