on the 2nd of this month one of my ferrets got out of his hutch, i think i may be to blame as i may not have shut the hutch properly. i have been searching around the garden and set live catch traps and left his hutch open in the hope he would come back. by today hopes had started to fade and i thought the chance of getting him back where zero. on the way off the farm today there was a sign put up that a ferret had been found wandering by the side of the a47 late on 3rd. there was a phone number to call on the bottom. i got the mobile out and rang straight away and told the man what my ferret looked like and when it got out. the man told me he lived next to a rspca worker and had handed it to him and that he would pass my details on to him.

now i have read that the rspca dont like handing ferrets back to working homes, can anyone help with this as i do want him back, do i tell them he is just a pet? please help also what will they be likely to ask me when they phone back

id agree with the others...wehter the rscpa like it or not as long as the animal is provided with food shelter and water and good living conditions there is nothing they can do or if you are really worried then tell them its your pet, good luck getting it back, keep us posted.atb

You shouldn't have a problem getting it back, but do it quickly. My mates 15 year old nephew had one destroyed because he couldn't get to the centre (60 odd miles away) in the time they gave him. They were quick enough to take it to their centre, but couldn't bring it back. Arseholes.

out of curiosity, how does one prove its your ferret? what if they ask for proof.......lets face it a blurry snap of a ferret looks much like any other ferret so if they ask you to produce a photo of it to prove its yours, cant imagine it would really be convincing.....any thoughts anyone?

If the animals are microchipped you can proove its yours by the data put agaisnt the chip number that some database will have somewhere

Its very likely you will be paying a fair amount to get the animal back as well & its possible it will be neutered as they whip of there bits pretty rapidly

One of mine got out a year or so back, local RSPCA woman turned up in her van a couple of weeks later with it and asked me if I'd lost a fert. Seemingly they'd rung the fert rescue place (30 miles away) and said they'd found one and they said it could be mine. It was! Living around the hedgerow behind an industrial unit about 1/4 mile away. Ferret rescues will usually give ferts to "any type" of home as longas they are housed/fed/treated properly. Don't stress, sort the ferts. Cheers, D.

As long as the ferret has been cared for properly and they see no signs of neglect

They have no right to keep your ferret regards to it being a worker or not

But bare in mind as kay says hurry up or they WILL cut its bits off

At the end of the day they have no rights like the police do, they make me sick , just go & tell them you lost your ferret & see if they have it , bare in mind it may not actually be the the rspca centre place very often the aco (neighbour) may well have dropped it off at a recsue place , now i know someone on here who had a ferret go missing , it was missing less than 24 hours & when he found it the next day it had been castrated by said rescue

But what they didnt know was the ferret was vasectomised , so dont hang about because they will have there bits off regardless of how long its been missing, anyone taking in a ferret is as far as i know supposed to hold it for 7 days & if its not claimed then put the animal up for re homing , giving medical treatment as a matter of urgency is one thing , but i dont think neutering is just because its there policy to do so

dont fall for any clap trap they may feed you , ferrets get out all the time for all sorts of reasons , the amount who live indoors & escape is equally as high believe it or not

rant over now i feel better :laugh:
