Mr_Logic 5
Are you talking 17 Rem or 17 Hmr? Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
If you are talking HMR then I'm happy with my CZ, I rate it an every day 100 yard tool and 150 when you know what you are doing. I have shot live quarry further, and it scores V Bulls and Bulls all day at 200 yards at Bisley. Forget Ballistic Coefficients, tables and charts..this round does NOT like the wind, perhaps its just me and I can't hold the rifle still in the wind, simple fact is when its Windy/Gusty I injure or miss a few, when it's still, they all fall down dead. They are noisy, even with a moderator. Ammo prices have just gone silly! There are those who will suggest the HMR it is an every day 200 yard hunting tool, I can shoot a bit and would suggest it isn't!! .17 Rem/Fireball... Quote Link to post

lgray88 4
i think your mistaken there mate when you say the 204 ruger is cheaper than 223 i have heard in past posts its over 20 pound a box wether thats true im not sure!. i think his best bet would be to try his rifle out on some of the cheap 223 ammo and see if it shoots well then just use that. if the weight is such a big issue and you really want a 17 hmr id go for a cz cheap and accurate. through time you will learn to flank the wind and how much holdover you need for your windage liam Edited June 7, 2009 by lgray88 Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
I'd stick with the .223 Bolty You have a good set up there and the terrain you have there is way too exposed and open for a HMR Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
I'm getting confused with this one...simple fact is .204 ammo is hard to find and limited choice and in principle a lot more expensive than .223. HMR has it's uses for sure, but is certainly not a replacement for .223 Quote Link to post
