Matt 160
A little while ago, it was suggested here that we needed a petition to get burrow blasters banned. Here it is: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Rodenator/ Please sign the petition, and also post the link to it on as many forums etc as possible. farmerrich 1
Why do folks want to ban things all the time? Theyre as bad as the antis. Ive had a look at these burrow blasters and if they are used apropriately they could be a useful tool. Ok so there is potential for this to be used in an irresponsible and inhumane manner but so have many of the tools we use in pest control, should we take the view that if we cant trust a few idiots we should ban them for the responsible majority? so think guys before you jump on another "ban it" bandwagon. Get out more and leave others to their own. Quote Link to post
salukiwhippet 6
Done. From what I've seen and heard, it's not a few idiots that abuse them, it seems common. Gives us all a bad name. No place for them in the UK IMHO. James Quote Link to post

Get out more and leave others to their own. As someone else has already pointed out, these devices are being misused on a regular and open basis. As far as being a 'useful tool' is concerned, for what? As someone who has worked in pest control and wildlife management all of my life, I see no benefit in blowing up empty mole runs. The law (Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981) is very clear on this. You may not use explosive devices to kill animals. These devices are clearly being marketed as a vermin control method in the UK which is misleading. I set up the petition because I am fed up with our wildlife being indescriminately killed and maimed using a device which is clearly not humane, by people who have no respect for our flora and fauna. Lets be clear about this; we are not talking about a 'few idiots' but a large proportion of the people who couldn't give a damn about animals of any sort. I for one want something done about it. If you disagree, don't sign. Simples.......... Quote Link to post

Get out more and leave others to their own. do you own or have used one? If you do you're sure to be one of the "appropiate" users then? have you personally seen the damage they can do if not used correctly? can you honestly say that finding half dead rabbit with blood coming out of their eyes, ears, mouths, and bum is ok days after the rodenator crews have gone? A read of all the other comments left by hunters on the forum might be benificial. Possibly getting out more than you is what other contributors have already done! I opened a topic called burrow blasting after finding the results of a local farmers use and thought that I had found an isolated case but not so. The problem is their misuse appears to be widespread. nuff said. Quote Link to post
kestrel 0
Matt, I am in the process of modifying the Rodenator to work on Regional Ops Managers, STEP 1 Push nozzles up said rear end STEP 2 Turn on gas STEP 3 ignite! I am taking orders from one pest control company, thick and fast Quote Link to post

I think these are really designed for small things like rats, ground squirrels and gophers, neither of which we have here, so their use I think is limited to small rodents like rats and mice, it people who use them for rabbits that cause the problem as it hasn't quite got the oomph to deal with them effectively. I'm afraid that I won't be signing the petition, perhaps people should lobby for licensing legislation and restrictions on their use? as with all things, they can be effective when used on the correct circumstances and using it on suitable pests is it just a few people using it inappropriately? it usually is Edited June 7, 2009 by danebrewer10 Quote Link to post
