mylomylo 7
As title really , my JRT keeps holding his back leg up but will run on it sometimes, I have checked his pads for thorns etc and he seems to have good movement in it , has anyone got any ideas before I go and throw money at the vet. He has been like this for a couple of days now
Panna 68
JRTs might have Patella Luxatio and Legg Calve Perthes. PL you can recognise if you try to GENTLY move the patella (knee) itself. If it is moveable (compare to another dog that doesn't lift any leg), than it might be that. I must admit that I had 2 PRTs that lifted their legs from time to time and both are tested PL CLEAR! So it might be a habit too. You can find many info on the net about both diseases. ATB, Anna

fireman 10,859
Does sound like patella luxatio or another hip problem, you need to get it tested and if positive don't ever breed from it.Seen some folks laugh about their terriers little skip, sencible breeding would soon see these faults disapear. diggerman 0
I've a young dog here got diagnosed with Patella Luxatio, his back leg is no good at he just hops around on three legs. Doesnt stop him going to ground, but he wont ever be bred from.

steve0146 0
Hi, My JRT does the same thing. Its her rear right leg. Went to vets to get knee checked out as they can lock out sometimes. Charged us loads for antibiotics and talked about surgery to look at her bone marrow! She was only 6 months at the time. Did some research and found out that it is a common trait on JRT. She still does it now and is not in any pain. I have met loads of people who's dog does it. I would get it checked out to make sure but it is a common habit in JRT's.
