what i would do mate is try everywhere if the lake is big then yeah try near snags and features but when ever iv been trout fishing on big lakes they have been every where really not just in certain spaces they like to patrol round the edges of areas rather than the middle. good look catch a good one and keep us posted. :D

watch for fly life, bird life and wind mate, its called water craft. Spend a bit of time before fishing looking around first, fish will give them selves away, then ask yourself why are they there and why are they doing that, then you will understand them better puting yourself in a better position to catch em. Good luck and tight lines :)

go spinning around snags and other obstructions underneath the water. or where you see fish jumping or rising. if you have a river or stream running into the lake then fish where it enters. i all this dosent work then try ledgering a worm or dragon fly larva on the bottom of the lake.

mate, wander up and down the river chucking the od bit of white bread in,if they take it from the surface youll see,and if it sinks youll see when they take, this will also get them into a feeding mood and if a couple more turn up theyll be in a shark like frenzy, now fix some bread to a line and trot on in to them!

ive caught more trout than i can remember like this and near all of them over 2lb many over 4lb from crystal clear chalk streams.

heres a couple my 5yo nipper and i had last summer:

if its a river, trout lie in particular areas in the flow. They don,t move to far, as food comes to them on the current, so just watch for a while and they will give them selves away. On still waters like dams, resivoirs, trout have to keep swimming to pass water over there gills, so they dont stay in one area. Certain areas will hold fish more than others, such as sunken roads, hedges, drop off ect, but the wind plays a big prt on still waters. It may be blowing flies onto the water or pushing rising pupae to another shore. Most of all you have to use your eyes and learn about the water your fishing. It aint easy, but thats the challenge aint it
