Will a pup wreck the bond with my dog?

Recommended Posts

As some of you know, I was donated a fantastic dog by a member on this site earlier this year...He has turned out amazing and the bond we have is really something special, Just tonight I was repairing a net, and he lay by my side, and then as I pegged it out, he walked along and stopped at every peg, he never has been worked along with long nets before and in about half an hour after pegging it out, I was chucking a rabbit into the net and he was running, skipping over the line and grabbing from the back, and then we raced each other up and down the grass before feding time! He really is a special dog and I have so much joy from him, my problem is he is a little older and I want to get a pup so that he can learn from him and keep him conpany on some days when Im away - My worry is that a pup could ruin the amazing bond we have got, will my dog become jealous or unhappy at this pup or have less of a bond with me, I would never want him to feel left, I know it sounds soppy, but this dog has just become my side kick so much I would hate anything to break it...

Mate, not being funny but you are still putting up posts asking for advice on the dog you've got. My advice would be to wait a bit, and learn as much as you can from him first. Learning goes both ways, especially when you're new to dogs.

Good answer, but everyone has to start somewhere, I just had the chance of getting another Beddy and was considering it asit would be company for my current dog, thats all.

We all have to take a chance.. but both dogs will only be getting half of your time. I have taken on a pup.. he 19 weeks now.. I love him to bits and he has great potential. My older dog attacked the pup last weekend. I now find myself in a very difficult situation. Older dog has resented the time I am putting into the new recruit and has now taken a real dislike to the little fella. Just think about it very carefully.. it's a difficult one for you... good luck..
