american earthdog trials

Recommended Posts

Have any of you lads ever set up an american earthdog trial burrow? Id say it would be great crack at a workin terrier show and with a small charge and prizes for the 3 fastest dogs to get to the rat might even make some money for the show organisers. It shouldnt be that hard to set up some land drainage pipes, a load of topsoil and a strong wire door to remove dog from burrow when he finds the rat. Can the antis/cruelty to animals people stop you if you use a pet rat as bait that is not stressed in any way and kept safe in a nice little cage? Any info welcome

Totally illegal. Although rosette hunters would love it, not only could pups be advertised from "show winners" but also "Game fair fastest tunnel dog" :D

I once did some terrier tunnel racing at a show: the old grain store heavy duty mesh tunnels with astro turf over them to cut out the light. The tunnel was about 30 feet long in total and the terriers raced in pairs after a fox brush lure that was dragged through the tunnel: great fun: and to see how many terriers wouldn't enter the tunnels was quite amazing!
