burrowman 6
Have any of you lads ever set up an american earthdog trial burrow? Id say it would be great crack at a workin terrier show and with a small charge and prizes for the 3 fastest dogs to get to the rat might even make some money for the show organisers. It shouldnt be that hard to set up some land drainage pipes, a load of topsoil and a strong wire door to remove dog from burrow when he finds the rat. Can the antis/cruelty to animals people stop you if you use a pet rat as bait that is not stressed in any way and kept safe in a nice little cage? Any info welcome Quote Link to post
the_stig 6,614
some of em make box tunnels out of ply wood leave hinged lids at intervals and sections of wire or perspex so the dog can be see by people watching . stick a stinking fox skin at the end i`ve seen em with false turns in aswell - might work .. scent 509
i think that can still be classed as baiting, would be a good idea and a good crack though Quote Link to post

Although rosette hunters would love it, not only could pups be advertised from "show winners" but also "Game fair fastest tunnel dog" Quote Link to post

skycat 6,173
I once did some terrier tunnel racing at a show: the old grain store heavy duty mesh tunnels with astro turf over them to cut out the light. The tunnel was about 30 feet long in total and the terriers raced in pairs after a fox brush lure that was dragged through the tunnel: great fun: and to see how many terriers wouldn't enter the tunnels was quite amazing!
