moxy 617
Picture the scene, Rural cottages set in the yorkshire countryside, 2 acre of manicured flowerbeds and lawned areas, koi pond with winding streams and waterfalls, lawned tennis courts and woodland to the rear. Idylic. The thing is this place is called rose cottage, but theres not a rose in sight!!..........or any form of bedding plants! The rabbits have eaten the lot. The nice lady has put up with it for long enough but cant take no more. The rabbits have eaten more than £600 of plants, she buys they eat. Bold as brass they are. If you make your presence known they just merrilly run and hide in the shrubbery till all is quiet. I did a survey and had a quiet mooch around monday evening to find their runs and farmiliarise myself with the area and determine a plan of action. Taking a modist 12 with the rifle + a squirrel which is always a bonus. The population is healthy, visual numbers of about 35 at 8pm of mixed sizes, with 2 good sized warrens beneath retaining walls and the rest making a bee-line high over a dry stone wall back into the wood, with the odd one or two making their way into the joneses next door, who to add are quiet fond of the rabbits. The runs in the lawn are unmistakeable and in due course a few snares will be employed along with an armourment of fenns the numbers will be lowered. However the grandkids are here untill sunday evening and the garden being a massive adventure playground, trap setting will have to wait, but i did find a place that was hard to get to, to drop a sneaky fenn. I set 3 cages and a fenn as a tester last night and to my delight i had a good healthy sized doe waiting for me this morning and a young un, I am hoping that there are more to come. Updates and pictures will follow. Quote Link to post

moxy 617
Cheers all, I know the topic title states cages but i have been off with a glass back and upon the return to the job, i had to make an impact on the population quickly to account for my absence. I havent done as much as i would have liked with the cages. Needless to say i have still caged a good half dozen. Yes the traps are new, its a perfect and secure enviroment to age them a little, once the shine has lessened then they will join the rest ready for the next job. The tally so far is about 50, 2 dozen shot and the traps and cages accounting for the rest. Should hopefully be somewhere near to the end of the job within a couple of days, All dependant on the neighbours not having a similar population. I will still drop in a card, you never know Quote Link to post
