I absolutely agree with TC, so dont keep being a dafty ya silly old c**t :tongue2:

No place in that reply did he say that you can turn a jacker into an outstanding dog just by givving it time.....a jacker is a jacker.

You say that you have never ever given up on a dog, so you must have been one lucky fecker to have never had a jacker or a sub-standard dog........either that, or you have a certain magic no other fecker has or low standards.

Dont try and wriggle out of the fact that you and your silly mate claimed that you can make ANY dog into a decent dog.........

90% of the time a dogs a jacker it's because the person bringing it on don't have a clue. you silly c**t

Feck me boys, if wit was dynamite you two wouldnt have enough to blow your hats off...............

OK, So let me get this right........if you two had a dog and its catch average was about 2% of everything you slipped it on, you had raised it right, give it the best food etc etc..........now lets say a fairly average lurcher will catch about 40% of everything it runs........would you still keep the 2% dog even though after say 3 or 4 years and having raised the dog as well as you could, it still did not have the right stuff to be 40%?

Would you breed from it in the hope of getting another that would make 40%?

Cant wait to hear you anwser this........it will be like the holy grail when you tell us all the secret!!

feck me what are all these %% about all over this thread.......... there just randoms!!

i think some are being quick to jump on the boys that do cull and move on by suggesting they dont care. the breeding of a dog is no small thing as most will know, from conception to proofing is a very long drawn out process (unless physical problems arise) i dont think anyone who goes to the effort to breed their own stuff would take the decision to cull unless it was necessary and to improve the line that they are producing.but at the end of the day why would you breed from anything in the hope to get something good when you can breed from tested animals.

as for dogs being bought or given as pups and being shunned off as useless at a ripe age, i would like to think that people who breed dogs of any standard to be worried about would chose their homes better, knowing they will be tested and cared for appropriately should mean more than the £££££'s. any that dont I'm afraid I'm not to worried about, generally these types move with the fashions and only ever play at the game so the dogs are never going to tested or find any quality anyway. the poor mutts are probably better of out of a situation where they are expected to produce miracles for morons.

who realy gives a sh*t it winds me up all these young muppets not every one but most, breeding litters of shite to shite, talking the talk. the bottom line is we will never stop it so let it be and get are dogs of good dog men or take a pup out of what we got simple. winging like a bunch of bitches :nono:

Whats with the percentages they mean nothing.....it's like saying if you took a dog out gave it one run a week and it caught something it's 100%

as cryptic as ever Wilfy. ;) yeah a bit like you and Moo's version of the holy grail monty python style....you could be the black knight :)

Personalities apart, what this thread is really about is most of the peolpe who own the dogs. It's the Ive got to have the best, hound, lurcher, terrier or even bloody ferrets mentality. They feel that if they do not catch the most, best, biggest or even the oddest, then they have no braggin rights.

In a way I feel sorry for them, because they are fools to themselves. They are loosing out on a partnership with a dog because basically they are too bloody thick to see the wood for the trees. So what if the dog only catches 2% of what it chases, it makes that 2% a lot sweeter.

Im my opinion hunting is not about the amount you catch it's just about being out there doing it, the companionship of your dogs, learning to work as a team. then when you do catch something its a bonus.

Another factor is the hunting and training ability of the owner from what I have read on some threads on this site I would not give some a dead dog to look after.

Many years ago a lad in the village was complaining that he had been sold a duff dog. Previous to the sale I had seen the bitch work and she was fine, and I told him so. One night I had a knock on the door, it was the youngster and his mate asking me to come with them with my dog. As I had fed mine I told them no but they kept on so I went with them just to watch. I let them walk in front as it was their land and they knew the layout, well they should have. What a bloody shambles there was not much wind and they were walking with the wind smoking, talking at the top of their voices as if on a Sunday afternoon stroll. Every field they went into all the rabbits were sitting at the edge of the hedges. No wonder the poor bitch could not catch rabbits. When I challenged them about it and told them why the dog was not catching, they said "we always do this farm this way".

If that is the standard of fieldcraft and hunting ability that is out there no wonder there are so many "duff" (sic) dogs.

Rant over.
