Catcher 1 not bein cheeky mate but can 99% of the time tell if a dog will make ghe grade or not by 2 yrs sometimes even earlier but it depend how high your standard is of a workin terrier and exactly what you want it to do mine must kill or t least try to kill below or i would not keep them but that imo atb hector Quote Link to post

fireman 11,012
I'm stealing another mans words here but oh so true," there are many men with dogs but very few dog men".Makes me sick to know very few bad dogs are born but so many are made by dumb f**ks who don't seem to have the sence to learn anything, time and effort put into most dogs and then working with the dogs weakness's rather than against them does pay out in the end. This if it don't work straight away get rid is i feel a result of this throw away world we live in and the funny thing(not really funny at all!) is most of these lads would have half decent dogs if they ever put in the effort to them.Grand post to start Catcher 1 and something along the lines of what johnboy has said should be the heading on the dog pages on this site,a grand example to all and wise words that many an older man should listen to,well done. scent 509
sad as it is to say the majority of the time its not the dog behind the man its the man behind the dog Quote Link to post
MOO 730
But if a dog doesnt have it ,it doesnt matter how much you put into it some dogs just dont meet some peoples standards ...but moving an inferior dog on especialy for ££££££££££ is out of order the right thing should be done ....and with the amount of second class dogs being bred for ££££££££ the problem will just get worse ..YOU BREED SHITE YOU GET SHITE Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
Some dogs no matter how well bred/reared or entered wont make the grade FACT. I guess its all about diferent standards, if your happy with your dog then fine............. Quote Link to post
Guest miller1989
Hi Catcher,im not quite sure if this was directed at me or not but ill take it all on the chin! At the end of the day im an allround hunter, a dog bred from good stock where the dam and sire are 5-6 years proven dogs on all quarry sometimes throw out not so good litters, now i wouldnt blame the breeder as the dam/sire are both proven but if you know you have done everything you can for this dog and its matured and its not doing the business theres only one place for them! If your looking for a rabbiting dog then look no further as most lurchers no mater what cross will usually take rabbits! But as i said im an allround man and i need an allround dog! I live in a built up area ive no alockements so ive no room for dogs that just wont work! Limited area in my kennels for dogs that do jobs in halfs,me think about cow boy builder you only get half a job! The reason i do things this way is then maybe just maybe the forsale section on here and people always saying my dog wont do this or wont do that! This may no longer happen! Where we are all the people i know do it the same and id say out of 20 dog men we have 15 that are real dog men! Makes all the difference! ATB Quote Link to post

johnbhoy 1
bit if you are a good dog man nd u know a bit about dogs u wont buy a pup unless u know its from good stock and 99% of pups out of gd working lines will take to it like a duck to water if the time is put into the dog and not wasted atb johnbhoy Quote Link to post

Jack Dark 2
I Agree with you there Catcher 1 people dont realize what they are taking on especially alot of the youngsters coming into the game basically the first year of a lurcher with me is all down to training, fetch, sit, come, stay and the most important one is in my eyes is breaking then to stock that is a (MUST!!! ) just all the basics then move on to the other things like crossing water, jumping, retrieving and getting it used to kids and getting on with other dogs.I am not deliberately singling out youngsters as a lot of them I have seen over the past 5 years have been out with someone lamping ect for the first time and think they can just buy a lurcher pup and it all comes naturally this is just my daughters opinion on this aswell as her father keano Well said Quote Link to post
