Tuning Duffus

Recommended Posts

I'm having all sorts of difficulties with a batch of duffus traps.

Basically I'm trying to 'tune' the triggers to be more sensitive. the current setting needs a really REALLY REALLY :wallbash: hard push to release and I've broken two trigger 'sears' already trying to bend them into the correct settings.

The metal seems extremely brittle and it's the first time I've come across this problem!

Anyone got tips on how to tune the traps without bending the sears?

looks like the end of the trigger is a loop :o wich is not right, ARE you shure theese are duffus traps more likly to be a copy . when i say duffus i mean made by them , not just look like duufus style barrel traps

They are definitely copies, used them before with no problem but in this batch they seem to have changed the wire to something way to brittle.

Its not a loop though. Another picture follows which I hope shows the problem.

As far as im aware this is the only way to make the trap more sensitive. There are other ways to get a better and more efficient kill but for sensitivity you need to bend this. Ive never had this problem, guessing they are low quality traps. You could do what stubby says and heat it, but if you are using long nosed pliers it really shouldnt snap.

Thanks stubby and trappa.

Heat gun wasn't hot enough but I borrowed a micro blow torch and got the tip glowing. Result was an easy adjustment. For interest, my friend helped me again by showing me how to quench the reheated tip in oil and it 're-tempered' with no lose apparent loss of strength.

Nice thing about these traps is that the springs are so strong that anything 'snapped' almost gets cut in half! On reflection, that's most likely the reason why they changed the clip wire to one so brittle.
