RABBIT WARRENS

Hi guys just wondering how big rabbit warrens can be. Im just starting out ferreting this will be my first season and the ground ive got has quite a few warrens theres maybe between 6 to 12 holes in one section then further up the hill about 10 yards theres another group. Can these all be linked or be sepporate warrens. thanks

There are prob different but if i was going at it wouldn't it be safer to have enough nets to cover all JUST incase. best fo luck

Theres always a few holes you cant see as well, so have a good hoke around, because as soon as you think you think all the holes are covered, a rabbit will come out of nowhere and be across the field before have time to blink

Net all the holes you can see mate or untill you run out of nets then go back and start ferreting the first burrow the peace and quite while you where netting up the rest will have helped the rabbits settle down again .but after the first time ferreting that piece of ground you will soon find out if there joined up

in my experience there is allways a pop up hole a little further out then the rest ,allways look for this one ,because sure as hell they will use it the most ,,,jas some warrens where i live ive put on 60 nets and 1 long net which is 20mtr long by 10 mtr and still have a few holes open ,,,

Hi mate regards to how big warrens can be is in a word huge

we have a lot of permission on the south downs in sussex and beleive me there are loads

of 400 to 500 holers there are some even bigger than that and i dont mean warrens that

look like seperate ones together these are massive single warrens

we have ferreted some and although they normally hold loads of rabbits be prepared

to be on one warren all day with 10 to 15 ferrets shit loads of purse and longnets

If you are just starting up these monsters are not recomended find your self some reasonable

size ones under hedges etc net all the holes you can and have a good time

you will surely enjoy ferreting its a good sport just start on the small sets and gradually build on bigger sets you will get used to it in no time. and just cover as many holes as possible if rabbits run out of the hole on the other side then you know for next time you will learn from your mistakes everyone does i still do sometimes lol atb with your ferreting mate tom!!

Firstly, make sure you get a locator That will save a lot of the 'error' part, otherwise its just not fair on the ferrets. They are a wise investment. There can be all sorts of goings on underground so god knows whether the two bury's are connected. Errr on the side on caution and net them both. Make sure you keep an eye out for any sort of drainage pipes etc or you really will have issues.

 

One last thing, the ground will be like concrete at the moment. Not the best time of year to start out unless you want A LOT of digging prectice
