Why cant i hit the damm pigeons ?

Recommended Posts

I've had Pigeon flying along side me while rideing my bike at about 45mph & they look like their cruising.

Christ knows the speed in wind.

Quite possibly they are high up & going not that fast but you've miss judged range or speed, both are hard to judge, bird flaps into view, brain goes into auto pilot, point & pull trigger.

I normally just shoot over a decoy or two or under a sitty tree. so know the Pigeon will be slow.

If bored & walk the hedgerow the flappers out of the bushes arn't much of a problem.

I find the worst for me is those I see in the distance, watch & wait, think & watch & wait & think & watch & think & wait & think & watch & plan the shot then point & bang & miss.

Often said people miss behind & I find when you are watching & waiting & planning how much lead things go wrong.

Comeing down to the deeks or landing / takeing off from a sitty tree ? what speed, what range.

Sat under a flight line ? what speed what range.

Random bird just slowly cruising across the field ? what speed what range.

Some will be easy because you know the answers some will be hard because you don't know the answers.

I can't afford clays now but they taught me a lot, my clay ave' was 28-60, not very good.

No prizes guessing the hard to hit stands.

I did learn swing through was good, better than a rough guess how much in front.

You need feet not inches.

What choke ? shot size ? Load ? Cartridge make / type ? & has your pattern with your combo got hole in it ?

If you don't know the range & not sure of the speed why try the shot if you know you will miss, one day you will hit but won't know why.

Mate of mine has the same problem!

Clays will def help as will an hours 'instruction'

Mind as I tell my shooting and ferreting partner 'the gunshop loves you walking thro the door' :D

He has tried all sorts of cartridges makes no difference.

If they go bang and shot leaves the barrel its up to you to put it round the bird!

Agree, cart's are cart's.

Not all are equal though.

Worth gettiing a large sheet of paper (wallpaper ?) & doing a quick pattern test if misses are happening for no apparent reason.

I use budget VFM ones & steer clear of budget end of line clearout when there gone there gone bargains.

f your trying loads of different types to solve a problem then that proves the fault is not with the cart's.
