Have set my heart on a new Sako stainless synthetic in .243 . My locl gunshop has an 85 screw cut ready to go at pre price hike price(£ 1195). But I also have the opertunity to buy one of the last new 75's un screw cut.

Am I right in thinking the75 was a better rifle should I get it and get it cut?

Would be greatful if there was anybody out there who has had or has or tryed both who could point me in the right direction.

Unfortunately I haven't got much time to make up my mind.

the stock on the 75 seems a little stiffer to me and just feels better built, i have handled and shot both and both are accurate,

the modern trend is to cut corners on quality, or finish, and if your getting a good deal on the older 75 and can get it screw cut for less than the cost of the 85 then that is the route i would take personally....

however in saying that they are both quality guns, good luck with whatever you decide...

LG, I bought a 75 because it was cheaper, much cheaper than an 85. I also prefer the stock on the 75, which is widely quoted as being one of the best designed ones on the market. As well as the stock Sako have altered the mag release, the feed (now wrongly being called a controlled feed according to Chuck Hawks) and the recoil lug. I do not think that the alterations have much to do with improving the rifle, but more to do with profits. Why not choose the one you think handles best. Both will be good rifles. I just prefer the 75 and would go out of my way to get one rather than the 85.

looks like the 75 wins hands down so far....... the 85 just doesn't feel as well built :o

it's like the tikka shift from the m595 and 695 to the t3 model..... a little downward trend in costcutting.....

don't get me wrong the t3 is a good gun, but the stock is a joke compared to earlier models....

Cheers guys . The chap is offering it screw cut and crowned for 50 quid less than the 85. he also stocks northstar mods which is what I wanted to go for as well .(Also at old price of£199) So all looks good.

Shall take the plunge tomorow!

Hi George

I've owned and shot a stainless synthetic 75 in 243 for 3 years

now and cannot fault it. And it was bought from a grouse keeper,

so was second hand when i bought it, but it still shoots like new.

Hope this helps!

Happy decision making!!!

Cheers

Thanks for your help guys. Just confirmed my own ideas really. Put deposite down today for the S/S 75 getting it screw cut ,cut down to 20" and recrowned. Putting a northstar mod on. Already got Docter 3-12 x 56 Unipoint lined up. Got to wait about 2 weeks .

Can't f***ing wait.

All the beat George

shall post pick when I've got it
