Guest donh
17. Welfare victory, SCA conference & hunting research (newsletters and weekly publications/grass e-route) ... To safeguard our flocks and the future of our farming, we need the law to be amended to allow the use of terriers below ground and allow a greater number of dogs to be used to flush foxes to guns. ... They also stated that all fox conrol would be licensed. Just got this of the Countryside alliance website, it was the only reference to working terriers that I could find. Could not find any reference to working lurchers and thought it would make interesting reading. Are these people acting in our interest? Quote Link to post

DIDO.1 22,847
i blame them partly for the ban.they could and SHOULD have done more,FACT!!!! What? Whether they are doing what you think should be done or not they are the only group promoteing hunting and fighting the ban. If anyone wants to knock em first list what YOU have done in the fight against the ban, both before and after. Yes they are tied in with big hunts and dont do as much for the running dogman, but thats where the volenteers and money for the fight comes from. If you can do more put your self forward. They are only fighting for the resrtictions placed on big hunts to be lifted, the quote I used was taken from their manefesto (try reading it). They are not interested in what we do just the support we can give them. All the freedeoms that have been taken from us will not even be asked to be repealed so they can say they are supporting animal welfare. I cannot find any proof at all that they want to do anything for working dogmen (terrier or lurcher) and until I do I will not support an organisation that claims to be supporting all forms of hunting when it appears not to. all the best Donh Quote Link to post

ferret1 6
Im not a lurcher man but i have friends that are. How many lurchers can you run at once, in my experience lurchers are ran in couples which is allowed under the ban although they are not allowed to a catch and kill a fox but you can hunt rabbits. I have been a member of the CA for many years and they are the only group that has brought this ban to the public eye and are taking positive action to repeal to ban. As for the comments that they should of done more, what more could they do the ban was signed and sealed before it was ever made public. They focus on the big hunts because with out the hunts alot of the land that we hunt on would nt be there. Quote Link to post

They focus on the big hunts because with out the hunts alot of the land that we hunt on would nt be there. The way I understand the manifesto is that they want fox control licensed (licensed hunts) wich rules us out. So if you are not licensed you cant bush foxes to guns or bolt foxes to guns. (worse off than we are now). Hares would only be shot as they are now for animal welfare purposes. So if the ban was overrturned in the C.A. favour we would be left with less than we have now under this ban rabbits and rats (but no foxes at all). Does anybody know who to contact at the C.A. to get these points clarified? all the best Donh Quote Link to post
Guest donh
I have sent the following Email to the C.A. and will post any reply. Please could you let me know the C.A. stance on the following points in relation to getting the hunting act repealed: * Hunting foxes with dogs * Bushing foxes with dogs * Bolting foxes with dogs * Digging to foxes with dogs * Hunting of hare with dogs * Hunting of deer with dogs I look forward to your reply Donh Quote Link to post

Perhaps we could see some of your dogs and hunting pics, that would be good ?? Quote Link to post

Perhaps we could see some of your dogs and hunting pics, that would be good ?? No underlying motive I support hunting in all its forms. I am just worried about being able to continue working my dogs legaly. When I was reading the C.A. website there was only that 1 snipit regarding the use of working terriers/lurchers (which I found very odd). This has me very worried for the future which is why I posted it. I will post some pictures of my dogs as soon as I work out how. If you need to know anything else please ask.
