Male:

 

The big lad that formed a human bridge with his body to allow a parcel of women and children to escape the Zeebrugge disaster...and subsequently refused all interviews.

 

Female:

 

Any of them non descript types dotted around the country that for decades have taken in problem children and through thier strength of personality moulded them into something half-right (a mother to everyone).

If you could pick one, alive or dead who would it be

 

My hero,not many will have heard off her,but she is my MAM :angel: if i bring my kids up half as good as she brought me and my sister and brothers up then i know that i will have done a good job.

my mate bill who is in his seventies and took 35 salmon single handed last season and is still doing the buisness out most night in winter with lamp and lurcher and gun. put most young lads on here to shame.

got to agree with you there top chalker , we had to take our little lass to have an operation there a few years back , and you see some of the poor kids in there . as you say the doctors and nurses must be so strong to keep smiling for the kids sake day in and day out . i must admit it broke my heart to see some of the poor kids and what they were going through !

Amen to that IS,scariest places in the world childrens wards :( Nothing humbles a person more than an hour spent in one of those places :no: Anyone working in such an atmosphere and still smiling for the kids sake deserves a chestful of medals :(

the lurcher that opened itself from end to end jumping a hedge with barbed wire running through it but still kept after the hare or the greyhound that snapped the tendons in its knee in a pile up at the first bend a huntington but still finished the race on three legs- real heroes!
