redda09 1
am making a ferret court. An decided to put a water feature init but it kind of turned in a mini pond. And i was wondering if i could put fish in the pond. i avent got the ferrets yet getting them in about 4 weeks. they will only be babys so i was thinking they would get used to the fish. if not i was thinking bottom feeders like loach's... Cold Ethyl 63
I think theyd probably kill the fish eventually.other half says they wont attack the fish if the water deep enough that the ferrets would have to swim down to get them.I personally wouldnt just in case Quote Link to post
Cold Ethyl 63
Also to add make sure they have a way out a slope or such like in case they do go in or fall in Quote Link to post

RaiderBoy 19
if you make it deep enough and get bottom feeding fish it shouldent be much of a problem but it depends on the ferrets some like to go in water and some will tear fingers of to avoid it. if you do put them in dont get any expensive fish Quote Link to post

sue 1
give the ferrets a fishing rod each they can catch their own tea no seriously just make sure if a ferret goes or falls in it can easily get out Quote Link to post
Hunting-top-shots 2
What about lining the pond with an old hemp sack then if they fell in they could get out easy. Cheers HTS Quote Link to post

DRP 3
I remember when I had one of my ferrets round a mates house on harness and lead years ago, it really wanted to get the goldfish in the bowl and may well have done if I didn't keep pulling him out of the bowl lol. Personally I would make the water feature very shallow and not add any fish. This way your ferrets can't drown but can still cool themselves in the summer if they want to. To add fish would mean making it deeper (still not convinced it would save the fish 100%, unless it was very deep, but that would be too dangerous for the ferrets) but this will put your ferrets at unnecessary risk of drowning in my opinion. Cold Ethyl 63
If you make a half decent cover for it with mesh or something similar and check it reguarly for damage then i cant see it being a problem just bear in mind the ferrets will try and chew through the wire if theyre determined enough Quote Link to post
