Malt 379
Got a text message off my hunting partner Willie this morning. He had to have his lurcher Tess PTS last night. He'd had her for about two months or so, me and him went up to Neath to collect her. She was a collie/whippet/greyhound, 9 months old. She looked a fine young dog, but she was carrying a bit of weight. The weight soon dropped off her, with all the exercise she was getting, Willie put in a good few hours every day after work with her. We were out for a mooch a few nights back, and she'd started to really open up with her speed, she was like a rocket. She also had a fantastic temperament, great with his kids, other dogs, etc. Willie popped in past his parents house last night, on the way home from walking the dogs, and left her in the back garden with his little terrier. He'd only been in the house for 5 minutes, when he heard an almighty racket, and the screech of tires. Tess had somehow jumped out of the garden, and ran onto the busy main road outside. Her two front legs were smashed to bits. The vet told him that they could possibly be repaired, but she'd never be able to work due to the severity of the damage. This coupled with the £600+ per leg he was quoted by the vet, led him to make the hard choice. I'm pure gutted for him, he'd wanted a lurcher for the best part of 20 years, but wasn't allowed one at home, then didn't live in a suitable place up until recently. RIP Tess. Quote Link to post
