lurcher - eye problem

Recommended Posts

Guest Champ606

Heya,

Yesterday my bitch had some what can be best described as goo/snot in the corner of her eye, I bathed it and gave it a good wash out and thought nothing

Of it, woke this morning to find it really blood shot and she is struggling to open it.

I have bathed and rinsed it out. I'm hoping she has just scratched it and it wil heal itself.

As ther are no vets open today has anyone got any advice as to what else it might be?

Cheers

cold, used tea bags are good for soothing eyes, i would be a little concerened if it percists because it could be an infection in the eye and you will need antibiotic eye drops . more than likely conjuntivitis. put a clove of garlic in the drinking water this will help fight any infection , if its skin, urine or eye infection its very effective. make sure jabs are up to date. if the other eye goes blood shot it sounds like an infection. but usually if adog has conjuntivitis they get it in both eyes so thinking about it . it could just be a scratch, the vet would put a special dye in the affected eye and this will show any scratch and all he will do is just give you eye drops . good luck :)

Your talking out of your arse if you think milk or even tea bags will cure an eye disorder. Or even using optrex for that matter..

I cannot stress enough how important correct medical attention is to a damaged or infected eye..

even the vet tells you to use tea bags to sooth eyeys theres an ingrediant in the tea bag what helps. you want to use some manners aswell.

you cant keep going to the vets every time your dog gets stingers in its eyes or even polland can irritate.

this forum is for opionions and not to judge opionions and be un-constructive :D

Depends how bad the injury is or what caused it. Sounds to me as if the eye has been punctured which will cause an ulcer. Anti-biotics is your only hope in that case. Funny time of the year with the heat... Eyes dry out, get things stuck on them etc. I'd be reluctant to run to the vet everytime a dog has a sore eye. But if you've bathed it etc, vet is your last choice.

Fucithalmic eye ointment (standard treatment for Conjunctivitis) from Hyperdrug.com.

My vet charged me £24.00 for it.

Online from Hyperdrug it's £4.00 ish.

I`v just got the eye drops out of the fridge and it say`s on the box made by Optrex  So yes like i said Optrex is the stuff to use, lol.

Joking apart Chloramphenicol which is now marketed on the optrex brand is now available off prescription and available at chemists.

The Terrier in the picture was taken to the vets within hours of the injury i knew it was serious from the discomfort the dog was showing. He remained at the vets for four days for hourly treatment and then allowed home. He wore the plastic collar for just over 3 months and recived medication for well over that.

Cost me a fortune but he never lost the eye but remained partially sighted.

Just imagine if i`d of treated this with milk and tea bags
