rebell 0
ive not even got my sgc yet but would like to know about safe shots and shotguns. ill most likely go for a 12bore and would use it for (if i can) rough shooting, at the moment i do alot of airgun shooting and i know safe shots from the unsafe ones, and i wondered what a safe shot is with a shot gun, the land i own is only 5 acres and on 2 sides theres a farmer 1 side theres a public footpath and the fourth side theres a cematary, the land is divided into 2 feilds and apart from the 1st field its well coverd by bush and trees on all 4 sides. on this land i would shoot mainly pigeon, rabbit and if i can fox. just wonderd what thoughts were on this and to see if this is safe or if im just talking bollocks and i should stick to air rifles. thanks chris Quote Link to post

Shotgun would be great then. Quote Link to post

wakey87 2
you will have to come up with a NEED for a shotgun, they dont just give them to city folk for protection any more. i dont see a problem as you already have a good reason by already shooting rabbits and pigeons so your "need" would be for vermin. firing at pigeons is little risk but you'll have to watch what is behind hedge rows when the rabbits pop out, especialy as fox cartridges can hold there energy over yards and more Edited June 1, 2009 by wakey87 Quote Link to post
hily 379
rebell you are thinking about safety and that as it should be and as wakey points out ground game holds more danger than flying game but if you can get out and about with a experienced shot gun man/woman they will help you understand about unloading when getting over obsticles muzzle awareness etc. not to sidetrack this thread but the last time i had to renew my shot gun cert firearms officer told me that in law you don't have to have a reason to posses a shotgun he said you might just like to polish them or just be a collecter but it helps if when asked that you do have a reason to own a shotgun vermin control or gundog training etc so if anyone can let me know if the law has changed because my tickets up for renewell soon thanks and goodluck rebell Quote Link to post
