SIKA STALKING

Recommended Posts

Hi there gents, does anyone in the forum shoot sika around the scottish borders as i`ve started seeing a few and shooting them and was wondering why they are showing there face now as i`ve shot the same ground for nearly 20 year!

Wasn`t sure if someone else was giving them alot of pressure or maybe some clearfells has started to move them wider a field?

sika have been near moffat for years , if your shooting a few a year you have a resident poulation, as for your bit von ( it is in peeblesshire)if im right the commision shot about 100 plus per season in that wood, Sika seem to spread into the wind so thats west from where they were escape's

Hybred, were about are you based? I shoot in the yarrow valley south east of peebles, where would the nearst wood with big numbers be from me, Blackhouse?

Also all the stags i`ve shot have been on the open hill but its went quiet! didn`t know if there was a better time of the year to see them on the open ground?

cheers S

If you are seeing Sika on a regular basis, then you definately have a population problem, they are very secretive and don't show them

selves very often and are very elusive, but at the top of the tree for stalking (good luck)

Im Based near peebles and run a sporting agency doing sika roe stalking and game bird shooting falconry, yes blackhouse has a few sika i think they are well controlled in there by mr rose, there has been a couple of FC woods sold in the last few months and they do have a good population of sika

Is that the ones up manor valley someone told me fountain forestry had bought them? do you know if they have a fulltime ranger working for them or is it all let out to clients?

If thats the one`s your on about that they shot 100 per year out of the population wont take long to get out of hand if it`s some guy that comes up a handful of times a year!

I heard that fountain only manage the blocks in the manor valley and they have let them out to groups of stalkers of which i think von has one of the blocks is that right, yes its one of these blocks that fc shot about 100 per year
