I agree with most of the posts i myself have only just bred a litter and i have been working dogs for about 30 years just not wanted to because of the hassle but i have a good sound bitch and my friend has a great dog so i decided to breed to keep a pup back for the future but its a bit of a minefield sorting out decent homes for them but at the end of the day its what you have to do to try and get the best working homes for good honest dogs people who will do the right things and bring the dogs on properly however there are never any guarantees.

Its no different than it was in the 70s the exchange & mart was alway full of lurcher pups i think we are more aware cos of the internet.

there was a few dogs advertised every week in the exchange and mart, but I firmly believe that 95% of them were of working parents, were as today they are breeding only for cash, you only need to go round the local dog pounds and you will always see a couple of lurchers there, in the 60s and 70s

there were very few lurchers to be found in the dog pound,

In my opinion has anybody else noticed this breeding for profit seems very common amongst lurhers, but not so common amongst terriers why?

In the local dog pound the other day to get a dog microchipped, 45 dogs in 17 were lurchers (mainly bull X) and 1 terrier (yorkie)

too many people breed lurchers without asking themselfs the question could they get a better bred pup from someone else the answer is usually yes but a lot of folks are pig headed and kennel blind. they think there dog or bitch is the only one worth having pups off ;)
thats right

threbb-- i was after a new pup for ages, in the end bred a litter myself from 2 working parents, every litter i visited i was not happy with, my new litter is 1st cross saluki greyhound, got 6 in the litter, 1 am having 1 and my mate who is also a pest controller is buying 1, u seriously suggesting i knock the other 4 on the head??

Why not? It's called culling.

I couldn't do it, but then I know that I couldn't and accept culling to be part and parcel of breeding, therefore I never have and am unlikely to ever breed a litter.

I'd be better rested knowing that they had a short life than a long one being mistreated or passed around.

i have just bred my bull grey bich to a salukie grey whippet now five of these pups are already sorted for working homes they have been since before the breeding ever took place , but what happens if she has twelve of a litter ? I will tell you shall I , they will be getting sold , sold for cash only and only to folk who I trust to look after them well and not put them into the circuit but at the end of the day if they pay for a pup and do decide they want to punt it on then what can i do ? it is all about trust and in this day and age who the feck can you trust ??????????

Why do they have to be working homes?
