i have a patterdale at 1 year

who is not good with other dogs but my own :boxing:

it was after a bad experince with a out of control collie that attacked him when he was a pup

thanks to a irisponsible owner :wallbash::thumbdown:

its sutch a shame as i cant take him out with my mates other dogs as hes a cracking little worker

iv tryed with him again and again but nothings working

any ideas?

Thanks##

i have the same problem , a 4 year old dog i have was at a summer show as a 9 month pup when he was gripped by the back leg by a westie , ever since he never gave any other dog or bitch the chance to get him he always struck first and no amount of retraining will solve this problem , he is a strong nuttal(buster) gould animal and takes some getting off even though i have now become adept at this . i have three others and they are fine and work well alongside any others , but this dog just goes into a trance like state and will not give any quarter , he just wants to kill whatever he has set his sights on. its a crying shame as hes a great working dog solo , i have no probs with him on his own or with dogs he knows well , but theres always that moment when a rambler or lost dog appears from nowhere and i know whats going to happen next. its mad really as my 5 year old daughter can drag him round by his ear and all he does is cry yet hes rabid with other k9s

im just after getting a 13 month old patterdale my first of that breed,im wanting to know what they are like around other dogs.ive heard that they like to box and if thats the case i wont be able to hunt him with my other terrier any information would be welcome

in my experince if its a dog fighter dont bother as when it comes down to the biz there cowards and dont have what it takes the ones that are laid back and take everything in there stride are the ones you want as when it comes to it these are the ones that make the grade ive came across both sorts but only keep one the workers not the shirkers

All depends on the way its brought up mate, ive only ever had 2 in all my years n had them from pups and they were grand with other dogs and people, but i have seen a few that are a bit tempered..

You say you got it at 12 months old, so see how he is over the next few weeks and lay down the law as soon as somethin kicks off..

All the best with your new pup mate..

Pa

cheers pa,im after having him out a few times with the other dogs and they dont seem to be a problem but one things for sure god help my ferrets if he ever gets near them ;)

DOGS ARE UNPREDICTABLE NO AMOUNT OF ADVICE WILL PREVENT A KENNEL FIGHT AT SOMETIME. KEEP THEM IN SEPERATE KENNELS. DEPENDS AS WELL ON HOW YOU WORK THEM, IF THEY ARE DIGGING DOGS THEN YOU ONLY USE 1 AT A TIME SO NO PROBLEMS THERE.
