lgray88 4
il go out on a limb here and presume you are meaning 17hmr. ammo choices is all down to what the gun likes generally 17 grainers do group tighter than the 20grain ammo. all the ammo is made in the same factory then given a different lablel and price tag to show the different manufacturers such as hornady. remington, winchester, federal and so on . just go out and buy a few boxes and see the difference then you will clearly see what your gun likes, no point basing your gun performance to a friend with the same gun chances are they will group differently. liam Quote Link to post

Was so impressed with the accuracy at 100mtrs that I didn't consider trying any alternative to the ammo I was recommended, I had already reached my limit. Hornady 17g varmint express for me PS I do value ammo choice with the other rimmy, my .22 shoots distinctly better with Eley subs than winnies or other stuff Edited May 30, 2009 by cyclonebri1 Quote Link to post
riflehunter 1
Try as many brands as you can, my marlin 17hmr likes fedral the best a close second would be hornady both in 17 grain. Remington and cci were very poor groups. Get a box of each and see how your rifle fares out. Quote Link to post

It's up/down to me to point better Quote Link to post

My only comment would be that the 17 Gr 'normal' rounds rip up the bunnies big time, bits of copper under the pelt 6" away from the entry wound, but the 'Gamepoint' don't do that, maybe if you shoot fox with yours the 20 Gr might be the best option, (personally I don't I use a centrefire), but if you don't have that choice then the 20 Gr would seem a good alternative. arveyboy 0
depends on the rifle mate the above are at 100yds with a cz style .17hmr. obviously thats just my rifles preference. it may be different with yours. atb, jack Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
For some strange reason the Remington 17g were not good in my CZ HMR either, although the groups were better than above. Winchesters are good but the best in mine are Federal 17g V Shok and Hornady 17g V-Max, on the right day I can virtually put them in the same hole at 100 yards...this was Hornady on a good day a few weeks back, 4 shots....
