Recommended Posts

well a neighbours dogs keep on eating soil, they are both doing it, and i suspect it is a dificiency (cant spell) in somthing, they are fed on BETA adult dog food and both look healthy and happy enough

any help would be great :)

anouther question for myself my dogs keep on eating grass all the time, they dont have the squits as i was told it was somthing to do with having unsettled stomachs, also they are still in good condition and happy and hyper as ever, the lurcher is fed on supadog greyhound and lurcher and the terrier on supadog adult

again any help and advice would be great

Not sure about the soil ...my dog is eating grass like a goat at the moment ..maybe its something to do with it being green and lush ATM ..she's eating just fine and doesn't have the squits so i'll just go with the flow on this one

dogs and wolves in the wild will eat soil and small stones to help break down certain foods in their gut ... it could well be what your neighboure is feeding the dog on thats causing the problem .......

Said it before and saying it again: IMO Beta is not a very good food: and yes I know loads of dogs live on it, but any cereal based commercial food is bound to be defficient in some way or another for a dog. Soil eating often indicates a mineral defficiency: I've brought in pups from outside and found it quiet common for them to eat soil until they have been on a decent raw diet for a few weeks, though little pups often do eat soil: bit like toddlers eating earth: just a new daft thing to put in their mouths LOL

IMo adult dogs eating soil means the dog is lacking something.

Dogs shouldn't be eating stones, dirt maybe but not stones. If one is a diabetic then maybe it's on a strict calorie controlled diet and using the dirt as a filla, unlikely but possible or maybe a learnt behaviour from an earlier time. There is usually more to a behaviour than meets the eye looking over a fence so best bet if you have to give advice then recomend a visit to the vet.

Eating fresh young grass is normal lots of protein and sugers in it.
