JoeD 24
Never ever trust anyone with your longnet,I learnt that the hard way. I was out doing some ferreting about 2 or 3 weeks ago and some one from college tagged along, I asked him to bring my net as I had my 25yd net and my ferrets with me so I thought it would be easier to get him to take my other net and save me the trek back, anyway I walked ahead a bit and all of a sudden I heard a clonk I turned round and some poles had dropped out of the basket and onto the ground and had tried to put them back in the basket before I saw I was so pissed off that I couldn't untangle it there as it was just everywhere, and all he said was "sorry mate" I have only just untangled it fully today and I am still fuming over it now. I wouldn't of been so pissed off if he hadn't tried to just throw it all back into the basket. And even now I haven't had a proper apology. So I have now lost all trust with people and will be ferreting on my own from now on unless I know 110% that they know what they are doing. Rant over. JoeD Quote Link to post
stubby 175
its funny how we get with our nets, Im the same mate, as you have found out yourself, although it might be hot, or back breaking, but get first timers carring everything else, leaving the nets to you, only after someones been out with me a few times, would I let someone have the responsability of them Quote Link to post
Dowen Pest Control Solutions 0
Longnets are a expensive piece of kit and fustrating when that happens it might take you some right sorting the tangle out hope there not to bad Quote Link to post
JoeD 24
The nets are ok now luckily but it took me nearly every night for the last week or 2 to untangle it and it boils my blood, fair enough people make mistakes and things happen but he didn't seem to even care, that net cost me about £ - £90 which I saved up for for ages and that is the most frustrating thing about it. And yes Steve I have become rather attached to my nets now. JoeD Quote Link to post
Fat-Ferret 857
I know what you mean...Its maddening when you take people out and they have no respect for your gear, Its hard to get anyone to go along that gets out of bed on time, is actually half interested and doesnt piss about and has a bit respect for your gear and ferrets...Thats why I most always go alone! I learnt it the hard way too. I trusted my mate to take in one of the stop nets on a job. Even after watching that the netting goes in the bag with the poles sitting on top he wrapped the netting around the poles That was last year and to this day I cant untangle the bloody thing! As well as him bashing my spade around all over the place making a mess of the shaft...nevermind what he does with the quarry we catch he has no respect i could of hit the twat even though he is my mate! Malt 379
My brother was exactly the same with my work gear. I was always the one that bought the gear, ranging from trowels to bigger stuff like mixers. If it was anything he had bought, it got treated like a baby. My stuff used to get chucked around like it was shit. The worst was when he got left by himself on a job that didn't go to plan. He just scraped the mixer out at the end of the day & didn't wash it out... I could go on, used my expensive wood chisels as bolsters, used to leave my marshalltown trowels caked in shit, broke the flex on my refina when it was a week old, done the same with my cement mixer, and so on... JoeD 24
Whats a long net? It is a long net that is used to catch rabbits instead of individual purse nets around each hole Quote Link to post
