why can,t I hit a barn door with a frying pan?

I'm betting that besides what's already been said about lead being critical, if you are a rifle shooter you may well also do one other thing that is a no-no with shotguns - you will 'stop' the gun when you pull the trigger - you've got to keep swinging the gun ahead of the target and keep the gun moving as you pull the trigger - don't stop the gun swing until well AFTER you have shot ;)

I second this analysis. You have hit some high fast birds on instinct swinging fast and firing in the swing .You are probably leading enough on slower targets then thinking fire but stopping the gun swinging. The time delay between thinking fire and actually firing is say quarter of a second. A 40mph target will have traveled 12ft or so in that time. It is easy to miss behind then.

It allways amazes me that people will spend a fortune on kit clothing driven days but seem reluctent to spend money on a few lessons.

Lots of the advice given will be valid but you really need someone to check gun fit, eye dominance, stance etc.

I'm lucky enough to count a couple of cpsa coaches as friends and they really do help (although I think i'm a better game shot than them both)

A few lessons early on will give you a good grounding and will make sure you are practicing the right things rather than enforcing bad form.

Good luck, Ezzy
