Well Folks,

Bit of a strange one this considering that most of our members are from the UK and are deprived of using pistols.

But.....

For those of you who used them before the Ban or those who still use them overseas, from the list of "common" calibres i.e. 9mm, .45ACP, .357, .38 Special etc etc. Which do you/did you consider to be the most accurate?

Leaving aside guns not liking certain ammunition, some calibres are inherently more accurate.

Reason I ask is a friend of mine is involved in private security in the Middle East somewhere and asked me on our last email which I considered most accurate. I replied that I have no real experience of them but I know somewhere I can ask

He told me he was getting fed up shooting 2ft to the left of his target with his Glock 9mm

I hope someone has an idea :D

Not got that much experience, but i have used a .22 and .38 single shot humane killer :D .

Had a day in a gun shop in America with a few Friends, i was told by the owner that the bigger or heavier the gun the less recoil.

I can only tell you that i couldn't hit a man size target from three feet away with a .38 snub nose, and boy did i try, you couldn't hold my gun it was so hot :) . On the other end of the scale my mate was standing in the next booth grinning like a Cheshire cat, he had a big old dirty harry gun and was heard to say "he could be the best shot in England and was not traveling in the right circles to be found out" :clapper::clapper::clapper:

regarding work in the middle east... most use the glock 7 as its cheap and nasty as a secondary and some us m4's as primary it all depends on what company you work for and the contract your on!!

Thanks Guys!

Understandably, he doesn't give me too much about who he works for and where he is, but he is in the "danger zone" he calls it, so we can all guess roughly where.

Speedy, he didn't mention the Model of Glock only the calibre. I have fired a Glock 9mm in the States, I could just about get some sort of consistent shooting on a man sized target at 15 yards after about 70 rounds!

I used the .44 Rem Mag (Dirty Harry) and that was an awesome round and I could hit things at the full 25 yards  But then I only fired 100 rounds through it so I have little experience! The recoil was enough on that thing :D

The .45 was an interesting tool. Through a Semi I tried it was pretty much useless, but through a revolver on single action, was a different beastie!

Keep 'em coming guys

I first learned to shoot in the mid-60s. I've owned .45acp, 9mm, 38acp, 22lr pistols. The most accurate was the 22, with the 9mm 125grn HP very close

Im not sure about accuracy, but my uncle had a friend who owned an auto mag i think it is...looks a beast in the pictures i've seen. im told that that was the gun/calibre (not sure what im afraid) combo for pistol hunting "hogs" in america

Problem with pistols is that they are not accurate. Basic use is close range and knock down. The .22lr is probably the most accurate close, but has very little knockdown compared to those you list.

9mm and .38 are poor in my experience, although it could have been something to do with the pistols, .357 I have only let go in a Winchester/Marlin so not a valid comparison, and .45ACP I've never fired to best of my knowledge.

my brother in law lives over in the US - he has a semi auto handgun - looks very much lick a glock but is an Eastern European make that I forget at the moment. It's a 9mm. Ive been able to get groupings of under 15cm at maximum range in the indoor shooting range - I think about 25 metres - that's standing and taking my time over each shot :gunsmilie:

The Glock 9mm can't be all bad. The Met don't seem to have any problems killing innocent people with them . . .
