Im planning on buying the Ortovox system for next seasons work...But read in EDRD that the collars arent much good.... surely DH cant be talking about the Strong Stuff collar is he? Ive got a bit of gear from Strong Stuff and I honestly cant fault it, it has been given some serious grief last season and survived with flying colours......so whats so bad about the collar for the ortovox ?

Opinions welcome

Hi mate, was a little surprised to hear about this to be honest, NOT because I'm too arrogant to accept that I might have got it wrong, but because I can't really see what he means.

As I've always said, if there's a way to close something, then of course there is also a way it could come undone, the best I can do is to make it as unlikely as possible for it to come undone.

To this end, I use only the strongest velcro available, that costs me about £18 a metre, the contact patch is as big as it possibly could be and the velcro is positioned so there is no webbing below it, so it can't be opened by a peeling action. I would also always recommend that either a couple of wraps of tape or a cable tie be put around the pouch, with this done, the pouch is impossible to get into.

In the same article doesn't he also say he doesn't like the B+F collar?

All I can say is that the collars I make have been extensively tested in the UK/Ireland and in Europe, I've yet to see one turn up with a request for a refund.

The Europeans seem to do quite a lot of digging on bigger quarry, and I've just had a repeat order for another 15 collars from one of the blokes over there who seems to do more than his fair share of digging Badger, he was involved in the development of the collars as were some reasonably busy lads over here, I simply would not offer anything for sale if it hadn't made them happy, there's no way I'd be risking my hard earned reputation for a few £12 collars!

What else can I say? If you look at the Ortovox collar they sell, it doesn't exactly look very robust, and they have been in use for 20 years, they only have a small piece of velcro and are cumbersome to say the least.

But, at the end of the day .......... I would never try to persuade anyone to buy my gear, if you have doubts about the collar, then stick with Bellman, I don't mean that in a harsh way.

I erm ........... do also now make collars that fit the B+F locator, as an alternative to their Biothane ones which some don't like.

This will be an interesting thread I reckon.

:good:

You dont need to say owt else mate, thats plenty! My order will be going ahead as planned with NO worries at all from me! :)

That is the only bad thing ive ever heard about any of your gear SS, and to me, it was like a quick judgement, rather than a complaint through poor performance....... anyway, im sure if it is good enough for those Euro's its good enough for me lol :clapper:

Keep up the good work mate.
