stubby 175
Is It definatly a 200 hole warren, or a few warrens on the same bank? but making it easy, as suggested either wait until the undergrowth dies back a bit, or if the landowner is keen to clear the warrens, get them to cut/strim a strip at top and bottom of banking, so longnets can be run along the length, both at the top and bottom, with stop nets sectioning it off into quarters, again as stated, the more hands the better, start at one end and work your way along, Quote Link to post
badgeroy 3
My experience with these banks (one was about 300 holes could'nt tell where one warren stopped and another started, 3 of us with about 200 nets moved along from behind us) has been to purse net the whole lot otherwise you will have the rabbits out of one hole and into another and not catch a bloody thing, its a hard days work but if there are that many rbbits in there it will be worth it. As previously said by others wait till the undergrowth dies back in the Autumn. Edited May 25, 2009 by badgeroy Quote Link to post
max abell 196
Hi mate we have a lot of very big burries on a lot of our pemission on the south downs 400 holes are common place and beleive me when i say they are hard enough work in the winter let alone this time of year Regards digging a lot of these burries are in solid chalk and really deep i do all sorts of ground but these big hill burries are by far the hardest of all They can be very productive but be prepared to be there all day if we decide to do one of the big downs burries we put down every purse net we have about 250 else they will hole hop all day surround the burrie with long nets and have a bloke or 2 with shotguns one burrie was so big we even put a small tramel net across the middle of it We then put 5 ferrets in for a little while then another 5 and when the action starts its manic but good you can get anything up to 35 to 40 rabbits out these really big uns but as i said be prepared for a long hard days work GOOD LUCK MATE and i would wait till winter before attempting these big uns Quote Link to post
