Any ideas why this may be.

Recommended Posts

Hi lads i got a 2 yr old beddy x whippet spot on dog dose as she says on the tin so to speak always been good and night BUT last 2 times i have had her out on a lamp she could not catch a cold i mean she is not focused on one bunny switches from one to another and has her nose to the floor,i am sure i could run her with another one of mine but i also know this will all end in tears with a injured dog and would rather not go this way.I just wondered if anyone had any ideas other than sell her etc as thats not a option as she is spot on in the day i ran her this morning and good as gold its just this lamp thing.

Sounds like she has started to use her nose "on the lamp" as well as in the daytime, it often happens when you use a dog more on daytime rabbits she is more used to hunting up in the daytime and trusts her nose more than your lamp, either keep her off the daytime rabbits and just use her for lamping or vice versa

This might sound a bit daft but at this time of the year with a lot of young rabbits about and the ground as it gets cooler at night the scenting conditions will be a lot stronger than [bANNED TEXT] lamping in the winter so if the scent is stronger the dog is more inclined to use its nose.I have noticed this with my dogs if i take them out first light or after rainfall ther noses are never of the floor but take them out midday and you can tell the difference.atvb

YOU SAY SHE IS DUE TO COME IN SEASON IN DECEMBER BUT IF SHE IS ONLY 2 THERE IS A CHANCE SHE COULD COME IN SEASON EVERY 6 MONTH....1 OF MY BITCHES DONE THAT....SHE PLAYED UP A BIT WHEN SHE WAS DUE TO COME IN SEASON...

JUST MY OPINION THO,

Had a beddy whippet that did a similar thing. Only took her on the darkest of nights. she soon got back to her old form, often start to hunt up if there is too much light. As others have mentioned mine could go off a bit when due in season. Anyway good luck with her. :good:

I'm confused mate, see when you say she switches from rabbit to rabbit, do you mean during the chase or once the rabbit escapes?

Thanks lads i ran her last night was as black as coal out there and still the same maybe it is a due into season thing as i have never seen her like this before but no worries i will not give up on her i am sure she will come right.Question for you do you think if i took her out tonight with my other lurcher and did not slip him and her together the thought in her head that he is there and may be slipped may drive her to switch back on as this was a overnight change.

I mean in her chase she will break from the beam and chace another then another and so on but she last night had sqatters feet in front of her and she missed them to chase others, usually she has one comes back then straight back out for the next and never leaves the beam thats on the bunny totaly focused.

So, she is up the arse of a rabbit on the beam then sees one in the corner of her eye and goes after it? Do you have a lot of young rabbits about?
