Beings no one else has started you off, i will give you a bit of advice. By all means i'm no experienced falconer, but i have read many books and been on many courses.

I would start off with the avery before you get anything else, do some research on the internet about what the ideal size that an avery for what your desired bird needs. It is ideal that you use shingle (those small stones) in the bottom of the avery. In mine, i have put a small shrub in there, but remember the shrub has to be non poisonous, or else you might wake up in the morning and your bird could be laying on the floor brown bread.

What type of bird do you want, after you have made your mind up on which bird you want, people will be able to help you more.

Good luck,

Alex

I have PM the lad several times, and given him ALL the advice he needs. I don't care how many courses you have been on or how many books you have read. Given the fact that you don't even know how to clean a glove, I don't belive that you are in anyway qualified to be giving advice to a complete novice ESPECIALLY seeing as you are ONLY 14YRS OLD YOURSELF! AND MY ADVICE to YOU is find a MENTOR who is willing to TEACH and GUIDE you for several years and forget the EAGLE OWL as you need to be experienced in handling LARGE birds of prey. If you make a mistake with these birds it could be both costly and painful?

Can you tell me why in merry hell have you put a shrub in your aivery????? what bird do you have a song thrush!!! Why does it need to be non poisonous does your hawk/owl/songthrush eat it?.Why is shingle ideal? why not sand?.Kidda dont give advice out to somebody who is just starting out when you obviously know very little yourself, its very dangerous. As per the thread orginator,if you are interested in falconry are you considering an owl
