Having read a recent thread on here from start to finish and having done my fair share of terrier work of various types ,i would like peoples honest views on what is a worker and whats a shirker .For instance ,the terrier that deals with large numbers of rats in a year ,sometimes all in a day but is only dug to a handfull of times ,is that a true worker .Does a dog have to be tested to the full before it gets this title or can we call the part timer ,a worker, on the assumption that it would work flat out given the chance .

Remember ,i have seen most things so no bull shit :clapper: .

i think a working terrier should be able to deal with rats everyday easily. I call a worker a terrier who has 3-4 yrs under its belt digging weekly and not jacking at all then i would consider that a worker. But as we all know now you cant test a terrier to its fullest.

A WORKER, IN MY OPINION, IS ONE THAT WILL CONSISTANTLY FIND/LOCATE HIS OWN GAME AND STAY TILL DUG TO OR FOUND "ON A REGULAR BASIS FOR 2-3 SEASONS"...YOU SHOULD KNOW WITHIN 2-3 SEASONS OF WORK IF YOU HAVE A REAL WORKER OR NOT AND WILL KNOW THEN IF THE PROSPECT IS WORTH BREEDING...ALL MY OPINION...DANIEL

:clapper: Well said our terriers are ratting dogs and thats what we keep them for, so in our eyes thats a working dog because its doing what we want it to do.
