You should only mix what you are going to use at the time of application, its not a good idea to leave it in your applicator due to it being released accidentally.

trouble is i got the sachets that mix 5ltr, i should have got the tub i suppose.

you live and learn.

Hi,

you need to use it pretty quikly as it settles. The powder will form a layer in the bottom of your spayer and it sometimes sets like concrete and is a devil to get out, causing more grief and blocked filters and nozzles that will plague you on subsequent spray jobs. The tubs are v. pricey but worth it if you use a lot of it, I would only mix a sachet where I know I can use it all or spray off a very small amount. If smaller jobs use a different formulation/product.

Why dont you just open a sachet, and mix up what you need and keep the un-used powder in the satchet and keep it in a suitable container ;)

I am having good results with deltamax and it comes in 1 ltre amounts, and its cheeper :victory:

thats an idea.

i`ve got some alphamax 1ltr soluble sachets and there pretty good, how residual are these water soluble type chemicals?

Hi,

I break the sachets down. Then measure to the job. I only use Ficam W for common ants (lasius niger). Bendiocarb is hasty stuff and they risky if not handled with care. I Prefer to use a bottle solution Ie Deltamost SC as you can easily measure it up and is used to kill a broad section of insect pests.

I only really use Ficam W in the summer there are so many insecticides to choose from. It best to use it up in one go so you mix a fresh batch everytime if not using daily. Not only this. A client likes to see you doing something for your money. If you mix on site it doesn't look like your just spraying water around.

It just my thoughts

Regards Roger

try not to mix insecticides too, i use a couple of hand sprayers one specifially for Ficam W.

The effectiveness over time is dependent on a whole range of exposure to physical and environmental factors, ie the type of surface it is applied to, heat, sun, rain, abrasion etc. Most Pesties have their favourites that they rely on from habit and their perceived successes, where in certain situations a different formulation would be better they still persist in the reliable 'old freind'

Breaking down sachets is opening yourself up to problems both legally (statutory box) and personal ( and public) exposure to concentrated pesticides. Which cannot be covered by your RA. I'm sure Matt the Rat would detail regs etc. Read the Label.

If anyone or animal had a reaction to the insecticide or the usual claims of " its set off my asthma" or "its burning the back of my throat" we all get following treatments from people wanting time of or compo the investigation could be costly via fines and lost customers.

Depending on your target and the situation the different formulations and products available now offer an appropriate solution. eg New Ant gels, C/roach baits and IGRs and addmixs.

Whatever you use you need to do it in the best and most professional way by the label and Risk Ass.

There are a lot of cowboys out there that will scuttle out of the woodwork with Wasps around the corner, if your in Pest control for the long haul, do it well, do it right and you will get work and more importantly it will grow your business from customer referrals.

The cash in hand, ant powder puffers may make a fast buck but many will not keep going and many will give us work to tidy up and put right.

Sorry I have reread post, turned into a rant, anyway not trying to be smart arse just may come across that way.

Talpa is quite correct.

It is an offence under COPRA to use any pesticide differently to the label specification. 'Breaking' the teabag sachet of ficam W is both illegal, and dangerous.

Either buy the larger tubs, which allow you to vary your mix quantities, or use a different product.

Just out of interest, what are you using the product for? Wettable powders have their advantages in certain situations, e.g. on porus surfaces, but there are plenty of other forumulations which are very good for carpeted areas etc.

'Deltamethrin' is a very useful active, available in SC (suspended concentrate) forumlation under the trade names of 'Metradin Flow' and also K-orthorine it is a very popular product for fleas etc.

Remember the legend on all the advertising and marketing material - ALWAYS READ THE LABEL!

I am not 100% sure where you stand on the above, but I believe that the container needs to be suitable and has to have its contents clearly marked, which is why I suggested that printing the label and using that as the contents marking .

Thats a good post Talpa :victory:

over to you Matt ;)

The container only needs to be labelled if you are using it to 'store' the product. In the case of diluted insecticide sprays, if you only mix the quantity you need for the job, you should never have 'left overs' in the application equipment. The only exception to this is Ficam D, which is often used for wasps through a DR5/PD5 large capacity duster. It is more dangerous to keep trying to decant the product in and out of the duster, so my advice to anyone would be to download a copy of the label off the Bayer website, and stick it to the duster.

How many pesters actually measure a spraying job before they mix their product? I've always done it, and the job has got alot easier with the advent of laser measuring devices.

The other thing that few people do properly is to rinse out their application equipement, and clean their filters after each job. You cannot expect a sprayer to dispense the correct amount of product if their is a load of crud in the filters (you'd be amazed at how much crap comes through a tap).

Also remember to rinse any empty pesticide containers out three times to convert them into 'controlled' waste.

There is a mountain of information and advice available to professional pest controllers over on the Pestpro Forum.... but anyone who wants more specific advice is welcome to drop me a PM.
