Thats ok mate but i feel like your missing the point and not having a dig but ppl like us dont get permission no matter how polite we are ,and it would not sit right with me to have some fella looking at me like that knowing i would never do what he thinks i would because he is born one side of the fence and i was born the other and i know you have to make a effort to get along and all men are created equal in your eyes maybe but not in the eyes of toffs keepers and wannabes. Mate its nice to be nice yes but it will only get you so far.

Thats a fair thing to say j davis BUT it depends if your face fits and me and other dog and ferret men look a type of way, as in i can spot one a mile off and i am sure the lads on here can 2 and keepers etc dont like it mate.I do understand that their birds are their bread and butter and they have to answer to their boss but they already made up their minds as soon as they see a lurcher so its hard to treat others as you would wish to be treated sometimes.

yes your right mate 12 years ago i was out with my mates lurcher lamping on the gamekeepers land was other men poching that night not us as we were walking down the road the pulled up shot the dog i had on the lead as i was holdiong it kicked fx out of us lol it was christmas eve and they were pissed.

i got to police station and the police did them they lost there licence but we lost the best dog we ever had. i dont like them like anyone eles but lernt over the years to work with them some are real ars holes some are ok. and your right if your face fits your ok.

my 2 cocker dogs are my life took them to the shoot and told one shoot if you shoot my dogs you will not here the last of it. prob because they are working cockers and not lurchers but how many lerchers go after the birds not many

You do have a relevant point in this post !

Believe me your right saying "people born both sides of the fence" have different outlooks on life because of there income mainly and there wealth.

Toffs....yea there on that side of the fence like you say born into it. Keepers are not.

They lick arse because they have to due to the job they are in. But they are no better than us..They do however like to think they are and believe they are better, and get more following as lads like us are capable of licking there arse for permission.

But I can't get my head around kissing there arse and working like a slave for a bit rabbiting because by doing the rabbiting we are helping them do their job.

I was on permission last night and a cheeky fekkin keeper and his silly pal decided to cross a river from another estate to catch me.

I laughed at the silly b@stard as they waded the river to see who i was...( not on there land )

I was foaming...the silly lad was told to stop swearing at me or i would handle him with the aggression he was trying to give me ( he soon shut up ).

The keeper said ( wait for this one ) " I will not let you go unless you tell me who you are and who you are on for" I said " NO You will TRY and not let me go and i am not telling you anything " So i said you are now on land that I have sole permission to shoot and control vermin so tell me again why you had the audacity to cross the boundary seems it has nothing to do with you ? He began to fluster and backed off....To be honest they needed a good talking to and they both got it from me.

I asked who gave them permission to be on my land ? the keeper did not answer, I asked if he was deaf, he said we are not on hear to shoot.

I reminded him that I never mentioned shooting and re-asked what right they had to cross over and approach me ?

The Keeper decided to back track and say well this lad ( meaning me ) is above board so we can let this one go.

I said No "will we bollocks", and asked who they thought they were and asked them " Do you think you are better than me or have more authority than me on this land ? The keeper could not answer and the silly fekkin helper walked away, I said to the numb helper " do not walk away when I am talking thats bad manners and you said you were going to do all-sorts to me earlier, so would you like to begin ? His arse went like a cat flap and he walked off.

The keeper is a fukkin pudding and his hard pal is as hard as a ball of flem,

AND THIS happened... on land that had balls all to do with him....

Well now I will pick on him and make him so uneasy he will have to ask my permission to fart in future.

And all because he stuck his nose in where it did not concern him and TRIED to bully me

The Foolish Idiot.

Why do people turn anti keeper ?

Answer, because of shit like this.

OK, without trying to sound snobbish. How many keepers are "born the other side of the fence" than you? Most are working class. Get paid a pitance to do a job. Is it a crime to do what you are paid for? (legitimate work obviously).

Your phrase "people like us" is a bit class war.

I've got a patch of land which I worked bloody hard for. I don't employ a keeper 'cause I can't afford it. If somebody I didn't know decided it was OK to come on to my land and poach rabbit without having the common decency to ask I'd be pretty piss*d off. In the same way you would be if someone hopped your fence and had all your vegetable patch away. Poaching has and will continue for years, we've all (well most) have done it. Its a buzz. If you get caught tough! Pay the consequenses and don't gripe about it. Just gripe about the fact that you were lame enough to get caught in the first place!

Ask nicely. Its Not kissing Ar*e its called manners. They don't cost anything. Get refused then winge about the self important pr*ck that refused you.

Some are but not many, most are poachers that have turned Keepers.....the worst kind of all.

OK I am not condoning the act of poaching BUT I am about to be devils advocate and say this.

So someone came on your land ferreting and was told to leave and showed no violence , is that OK ?

Someone runs a dog and it never looked at stock only the rabbit and was told to leave and showed no violence , is that OK ?

Someone oversteps the boundary one day and shoots over there spaniel on the land accidentally as to speak is that OK ?

And as far as getting caught goes should you not ask,.....Would you run ?

WOULD YOU RUN knowing you have committed such a petty crime where a simple sorry will do and an assurance that you will not do it again will clear matters.

I mean we are not talking worrying stock hear we are talking "nipping on for a couple of bunnies".....

So Then I ask YOU THE LAND OWNER OR AGENT / OCCUPIER would you get a poor lad nicked for this action ?

If you can answer yes your brave, if you answer no but I would rather it did not happen then your human, if you answer no then your one of the lads !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it is.

To be honest I could give all three answers in certain circumstances.

All I'm trying to do is see it from....and I don't like the phrase.....the other side of the fence. I've been called out of my pit at 2 in the AM 'cause some ejit with a skin full of ale decided to get his beat up diahatsu, drive through a fence and set up his nets for a spot of "legitimate hunting activities". Come on! Oh, all of a sudden I'm a fascist bast*rd who should "live and let live"!

I've never been refused permission on the grounds that I look like a scruffy thieving p***y (I've been told I do!) Personally I'm greatful to the lads who ask me to ferret on my land 'cause I know they'll look after it. If they don't they can find somewhere else.

Just trying to be objective

A strange thing happend last year the copper and the keeper who attacked me first both commited suicide last year the keeper after he had just been sentenced to 2 years for a firearm offence like they say its a funny old world atvb dell

I no way do I poach or condone poaching

Elaborate yourself mate, Tell us your feelings thats what this forum is all about.

So lets get this clear,

I will use this scenario.....

I come by your land and flick a light over part of it, I see a considerable amount of Rabbits or game I am after.........

I stop the car ( either jump out with a ferret box and a dozen nets or a dog to course them or then again I might fancy shooting them ).

Is this the crime of the century to you ???

Lets say I Catch the prey...I get the buzz and the prize of selling it ( a rabbit worth £1 ). and that you know fine well.

So you would stop me and prosecute me for that ?

I know you are self centered in your job and need results that will score you brownie points but COME ON its a shit thing to knick any one for and you know it.

If your house was robbed and your pictures of naked males were taken then that might be an excuse to do it :icon_redface::D but for a bit Rabbit .etc :::::

getting someone knicked for petty sh1t ? I would be ashamed of you.

Come on

No it isn't crime of the century.

However its my land (not my job) I have worked hard for it and have spent alot of money on it (repairing broken fences from people who fancy having a few rabbits of it.

All you see when you flick your light over it is a bunch of rabbits You have no idea what else is there. without wanting to appear rude, Who the fek are these people who think "I want it I'm taking it"? Yes if you shot over my land you'd get the filth on your ass. I don't shoot it (for reasons best known to myself) so why should anyone else?

Another scenario; I'm walking home from the pub, I've had a few and spot a nicely cultivated veg patch in someones back garden. I hop the fence and help myself. What I take is only worth a few quid so would you get me knicked for it? Or the umpteenth bloke who fancied some? Someone has spent time and effort growing that veg Do you think they did it so anyone could help themselves?

Its not hard.

As for my house being robbed..............Nah.............. cheap and unecessary comment

Ninging on both sides of the fence

Sorry about the house robbing comment.

I do understand about the other aspects of "poaching" fence wrecking maybe yea if you say so,

Game birds disturbed yea, and lets get nitty and say footprints in a new sown field !

So I will be honest here,

We will use your own scenario...

A bloke comes home from the pub and climbs into my pitch and takes some of my home grown grown veg....

I find out its him as he has a sale of home grown veg at the village square and I know no on e else has grow sh1t apart from me so it is mine.

Do I knick him ? and get him a criminal record ? But then again like Rabbits he has not taken the lot he has taken a couple.

I mean to say Rabbits ain't really yours are they ? they just live there for now, until you kill them or they fukk off to next door.

just like deer they are only the STALKERS not the landowners at any time, because tomorrow they can be next door and what do you do then ? shout hey

you cvun they are my deer ? well oh deer they are not my friend.

But then again some w@nkers would knick a bloke for that and it is wrong.....because the deer belongs to no fekker.

So on another note leading back to your statement......

OK lets say if I had 90p in my pocket and you stole 5p would you expect to be nicked ?

You should maybe take each case into question with the severeness of the crime on percentages.

And the fence lark does not wear with me.....put up a good fence and it will not fekk once climbed, old fekked fenced that break need replacing anyways

and you know it.

The moral is this.

I have a thousand birds

Steal five today and run away

and every thing will be OK.

Steal 10 again and you meet my men.

Steal 20 and now thats plenty, so you will not be around to see Santy

lol :D

Swamp... I know the score I work on an estate as a helper, but I would not knick anybody for the odd rabbit as long as they arnt doing the birds any harm.

Most of our poachers know this because I talk to them and they are happy with the agreement.

My poachers keep other poachers off the place mate, it works just fine.

But to knick a bloke for suck petty sh1t is unthinkable and beyond my ways.

For a more severe crime things would be diffrent............

Do not let the title "Keeper" go to your head mate all you are is a "glorified groundsman that feeds birds".

Like i say I will not condone poaching but some poachers are Just lads that have been told NO and nave nowhere to go

but try to understand there position, and do not be too hard on them. Try getting to know them ! They are better than the toffs for a laugh any-day,

So try not to take it out on Rabbit catchers for you taking the Job my friend they will be there anyways even if you aint.

Its easier to be a friend than to be the enemy.......

I believe we are possibly "singing from the same hymn sheet".....perhaps in a different key but still the same song

Groundsman? Keeper?...Call it what you will (I've been called a lot worse as i'm sure you will believe) I look after my land, lets leave it that. Yes I may be a bit up myself/anal about it but I love it. Its my corner of England that is my place to go and feel good about the world.I am happy to and do share it with many folk who hopefully enjoy it as much as I do.

For the record; short of putting an unsightly pallisade fence (which would stop the transient deer) I don't know of many timber fences that could withstand a 4X4 yanking it down.

Yes I get poachers and yes I've caught them occaisionally. Some have been asked by me to give me a call next time they want to come on my land rather than a call from a neighbour informing me that someones lamping on the top field . Saves me having to miss my dinner/pint/sex or sleep! Others have been asked to leave because of their belligerant attitude and damage they've caused. I've had a shotgun put in my face, my house threatened with a torching, a serious kicking and more. Fortunately these incidents have been few and far between.

Normally the aggro is from shall I say the more transient elements of our society. Local folk are more understanding................and well mannered.

Like I said and you have also in your last sentence. Manners cost nothing and is normally you get paid interest on it.

So there you go........Just my side of the fence

Best Regards

That side of the fence remark really did not sit well with you did it buddy. It was not a dig at you at all it was a statment was all and yes it is about class your right and if your truthful you know what i mean, but as for your corner of the world and you loving it nowt wrong with that at all and i am sure you have given lads parmission to go on your land but most dont and it is because of class,ok you could say its down to things that have happened in the past poachers travlers etc but again it dose come down to what side if the fence they think you are from.
