Breeder wants me to collect pup!

Recommended Posts

If some of u are aware i posted a topic sayin i was gettin a new terrier pup, went to pick it out last wk and the pup was 5 wks and i told him id collect the pup after his innocs in 3 wks..

But i got a text this morning sayin that the pups were injected this week and all other pups were been collected friday and i can collect mine whenever it suit after that.. Now i know that pups have to isolated from other dogs after innocs and usually seperated at 8 weeks..

Should i ask him to keep the pup till then?

Or is it ok to take the pup and just keep him away from my own dogs?

Any words of wisdom will do!

Cheers in advance!

some breeders let them go at six weeks

vets recommend collect one week after first vacc but not fully covered until one week after second

however i dont isolate mine from my other dogs just try to avoid taking any of them to places where there are lots of dogs till pup is covered by vaccs

however i do live in the middle of nowhere and my pups are walked from the day they arrive

but as always its your call listen to everyone and make your own decision

I tokk my pup for it's jag the other week and the vet was telling me opinions are now changing he said the new thinking is that wee pups should socialise with other 'vaccinated' dogs at an early age, how you know if the other dog is vaccinated I don't know :D

pup should be grand to take home

just make sure that its not just a tempory injection that pup got.

some just do till ten or twelve weeks.

best to inject at about nine ten weeks i think

as the bitches antibodies from milk will be gone then.

hope this is some help

I picked my old coursing bitch up at 5 weeks, but only because she was the only pup in the litter and she was in terrible conditions. I did try and buy the dam because I felt sorry for her but the dirty b*****d that owned her would'nt sell me her.

wex the pup will be fine mate at 6 weeks , but jabbing them so early is a waste of time as they still have the mother imunity and just piss out the vaccine much better to do it at 8 week or better still 10 weeks, with our pup we do them at 10 weeks but they run around with the rest of the dogs all 15 of them and we have never had any problems , at langford vet school they are doing reseach into this and so far there saying 10--12 weeks it will be interesting to see what final answer they come up with by the way the greyhounds at langford are not vaccinated untill there 14 weeks old !!!!!!!

As with most things there are pros and cons. I've always waited until a couple of weeks after the second jab before taking them out. However, my middle bitch is a bit touchy with people and other dogs and since getting her I heard that somebody (I think it's Guide Dogs for the Blind) recommend getting them out as soon as possible. Then I read in an Australian Kelpie book the recommendation to do the same based on the opinion that the possible health dangers from taking them out earlier are outweighed by the socialisation benefits. As a result I took my current pup out straight away and although she's the half sister of the other she's much friendlier and more outgoing.
