cheapist way to build a court

Recommended Posts

I had a big rat cage, and scrounged an old, solid wood cabinet with drawers and shelves inside. I cut holes through the different shelves and levels and then had a pipe to link to the rat cage. They loved it through the winter as was really cosy.

I got another big rat cage off freecycle and joined this on too. Theres a bit of chewing on one side so there're just in the cages now, and the cabinet will need patching up before next winter, figured I'd put wire mesh around it too. But my set up is inside a barn, so doesn't have to face the elements.

plummer1 what stops the ferrets climbing out the top

the green mesh at the back you can see but there is also black netting at the front but unfortunatley not that vissable on the pics.

its also panneld to 3ft round the inside to discourage climbing.

It does look a cracking court you have there, but as already said, i would sort out a roof for it (1) to keep the ferrets in, and (2) to keep the rain out,

Otherwise, it looks top drawer, well done.

Edited to add, the ferrets will use that green netting as a bridge to the garages and freedom, be carefull, they climb like bloody monkeys.

Hello,

I have a 6ft by 4ft shed with a 3 storey hutch they have full access to a wire cage over the window they can climb about in then there is a pipe that leads to a 4ft by 4ft run with a ramp to a 2ft by 4ft hutch on top, they have pipes hammocks ramps etc, all this cost me was the price of any screws i got to fix it all together, oh also petrol to pick the bits up but i didnt go far.

Its a great run and they have loads of room, i also got a couple of other hutches, 1 in use at the mo for my jill and her kits the other i have a hen sitting some eggs in.

I got most of this stuff off a web site called freecycle. Google it and see if there is one in your area.

Basically people offer stuff they no longer need, you can aslo request stuff but its all free!

I have had loads of stuff off of it, and given away quite a bit also. Our local one theres loads of members so loads of stuff up for grabs but you have to be real quick, descent stuff goes really quick.

Have a look, its a really good idea and works well.

Good luck

Neil

they will climb on top of the black piping, onto the hutch roof, giving access to the witre mesh, shimmy over to the left, and up over the top, quicker than you can say jack frost, unless you get a solid top on it, the next post will be "my ferrets escaped, plus why a padlock on the door, thieves would simply climb over

i was at jewson buying some bits for work and i noticed a pile of pallets sitting in the yard. asked if i could take a couple and he said yes and theres some off cuts of ply and timber you can have aswel. my advice is try builders merchants, if theyve got a skip even better because you know its getting tipped usually pallets and wood in them.
