Guest rodsmith
thers alot of debate and dare i say it-"piss taking" on this site daily.mainly at the lurchers at stud regarding scaring.almost every working terrier if worked to ground and done some graft WILL collect a few marks, some more than others and some alot easier to see than other breeds due to the coat type.just because a terrier isnt smashed to bits does not mean it doesnt work.many breeds work different,by this i mean not many russells are as hard as say,a patterdale.the former tending to be baying terriers.this is not meant to start any more bickering etc, merely some proper views from proper terrier boys and not from the proper variety that do all their digging etc from the comfort of an armchair, you know the sort!! plummer1 0
must addmit your bang on mate, my border x lakey had quite a few scars but because of her coat they were pretty hard to see at a glance, my plummer on the other hand doesnt have the heavy coat around the muzzle and will propably show scars like a beleasha beacon although he doesnt have any yet i'm sure there will be plenty to come. cheers p1 Quote Link to post
Guest jt750
Not sure what you're trying to say here. Are you saying a dog that isn't scarred isn't good or a dog that is scarred better than one that isn't. For me over the years i wanted a lurcher to kill fox not fight it. I'll be honest i haven't done any terrier work myself but have been out plenty with people that have working terriers and helped to dig and dispatch. My opinion is i would rather have a bayer than a hard dog Quote Link to post

wexford Pa 84
Had this argument wit a lad a while ago about a bitch i had.. she was a lakey x russel bitch, good bitch too, what i call 'a bayer n stayer'.. Well this eejit told me that he because she hadnt a mark on her that she's seen nothin but rabbit holes n claimed she'd ''be better off in a show ring''.. Now on close insection this bitch she was marked but not badly but this lad was too busy showin me his banged up dogs (from pics on his phone) that he didnt even put his hand on her to look.. So i gave him the usual story that ''i prefer to work my bitch every weekend than 1 who gets so banged up that its laid up for 3 wks''.. So he offered me a days hunting on his permission.. Well cut the story this 'show dog' showed what she can do n a year later (4 yrs ago) he bought 2 pups from the bitch n he's breedin his bitch this year.. Not a bad strain of dogs that came from a bitch wit no scars, eh? Quote Link to post

jpnixon 7
IMO you need a mix of both a dog that is too hard isnt right as you can only dig here and there with him but a dog that doesnt mix isnt worth havin either cause if a fox wants too move a dog will have to hold him no matter what. I like a dog that sitts of yapping and when it calls for it he has no problem mixing. I have seen dogs that have plenty of scares but when your digging them they have to be dug out quick and thats not my kind of dog Quote Link to post
