Guest MickyB
Ok there seems to be hundreds of topics about feeding raw, and I myself feed raw meat on the bone to my dogs. Im a pest controller, I have a unlimited supply of rabbits and good ammounts of other game and venison in season. I freeze my rabbit carcasses to kill the worms and worm eggs, but how long does this need to be?? It seems you ask 10 peoplke you get 10 different answers, so please, no more OPINIONS, its time for FACTS!! How long will a worm survive being frozen solid??

Guest MickyB
if you want facts why dont you try google? Ill have a look, cheers but lets face it, not everything on google is fact mate... plus there will be people on here with the knowledge I seek, and Id rather it come from a fellow hunter. Might even give someone something to do on a boring Sunday evening.

Guest MickyB
See..... its the same old thread...... everyones got a different opinion! I have a rotation system in my dogs freezer of about 10 days, I also dont get worm problems.... so how long does it take to kill worms and worm eggs by freezing? Can they actually survive being frozen solid or not? Cheers Micky
Kay 3,709
I think if someone knew & could proove beond doubt that worms are killed after x amount of freezing they would have said so , ask a specialist in this field if you want facts not opinions , if you have been feeding without any problems yourself then i dont know what the issue is

Why dont you conduct the first experiment, lob some bunnys in the freezer, start with 10 days, thaw 'em, feed 'em and if you or your dogs get worms, buy some Dorontal and freeze 'em for longer next time...... Simples!

As far as I know worms and their eggs will die when frozen solid. So why all the talk about 3 weeks, a month and so on? I thought, as all these people seem fast to tell others how long to freeze stuff for, that they may be able to back it up with facts..... obviously not, il take my questions somewhere else.buy pedigree chum you moaning twat,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,FACT Yeah.... thanks for the input! lucky 578
i feed my dogs 90% fresh raw meat, but i worm them every couple of month and i've never had any problems....
Guest MickyB
Cheers lucky. I feed all other game and venison raw and fresh, I only freeze the rabbits as I find lots of tapeworm cysts in the flesh as well as adults in the guts, which have effected my dogs pretty quickly in the past. I worm every 2-3 month with drontal plus. The thread was to find the real time scale to kill a worm by freezing as there are many opinions on that.... i found a reference about killing tapeworm in beef on the earthtym.net website and it states 6 days of freezing. Ill keep looking on google.
skycat 6,173
Right: here's what I've found on Google: though I've always been told to freeze rabbit for 3 weeks to kill worm cysts: that's what we do and we've never had a problem. http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:Pi4TH...=clnk&gl=uk
