She may have done it under the auspices of patriotism believing that we should be in the "inner sanctum" of brussells. The Falklands was without doubt a piece of fortuitous luck for her. It diverted the attention of a poor/collapsing economy at home whilst promoted and stirring national unity in a fight thousands of miles away that to be honest we were never going to lose.

 

However, she was a ballsy charismatic leader who did not flinch from the task at hand. Had her policies been better she would without doubt been the greatest PM this Britain has ever seen.
