Advice for a newbie pigeon shooter

Hi all

 

Although i've been hunting for many years , this has mainly been with rifles. However , i have recently purchased my first shotgun , a Lanber Sporting Deluxe 12g o/u and have also joined a pigeon shooting syndicate , which covers approx 1200 acres.

 

In my haste ( exitement ) to get started quickly , i purchased a shooting blind online , that had cammo netting and the poles all joined together , and folded up neatly after you have finished shooting.

 

This blind cost about 70 quid , and to cut a long story short was ruined on it's first outing.

The problem was that , it was a fairly windy day , and after about an hour of wind hitting the cammo screen , the metal spikes which held the blind into the ground were ripped out . Out of the 6 spikes 2 were complety ripped out from the screens legs and stayed buried in the earth

 

I have contacted the company which sold me the screen and i am just waiting for the refund to go through.

 

Sorry to waffle on so much , but as you can imagine this really did p..s me off and this brings me to the reason of this posting.

 

Can anybody advise me on how to kit myself out . I am on a budget of about quid and was just wondering about hide poles and netting etc. Will i be better off to buy poles seperately from the netting or are there any other all in one screens out there that won't be ruined quite so quickly , and what make are they.

have a look on ebay, loads of cheap nets on there and you will get the poles for bout 40notes. i have got a lanber delux nice guns

 

at first you dont have to worry to muc habout poles i know a lot of people use washing line poles and i personally use some old black adjusable banksticks i has lying around and a small camnet you can pick them up cheap from a lot of places and dont worry about anything fancy invest your money in decoys and a good faceviel and gloves.

 

this is my personal opinion but i am still rather new to it but face and hand cover is an essential

I got my refund through from the first hide that broke , so i've been out and bought some bisley camo netting , 4 deben hide poles ( telescopic ) and a face veil .

 

I've never used a face veil and was just wondering if they are really necessary . Heres a link to show the face veil i purchased ,

Hi mate, If you have a budget of £ get yourself a stealth ghost 2 ply camo net and a set of 4 adjustable hide poles with footplates and spikes.

 

The poles are around £40 and the net should only be £30.

 

Ukshootwarehouse has them In stock and they are very quick with delivery

 

If you get these they will last you years and they do the job very well

the viel seems fine i just got the cheapest one i could (student budget) and used whatever netting and poles i had about. my best advice is save your hard earnt pennies for the deeks. they are what costs and essentialy the crux of the whole plan.

 

i only have 6 full bodied plastic but if i were you lookig back i'd by as many flocked shells as i could and you should get the rocker sticks with them. and face and hand cover are essential if they are well covered and your still enough you can get a few rooks and maggies etc
