Third nesting resident this year

Well done JD it is indeed occupied by Bee`s.. It`s surprising just how many are in that old Budgie box.

I`m considering acquiring a hive which im sure one local land owner will kindly donate and situate it in the garden seeming there on the decline..

Aquiring a hive may not serve you well.

Bumble bees have different habits to honey bees and may not colonise in a hive. (it looks like a bumble bee in the pic)

I may be wrong, so dont hold me to that.

A large old tea pot or something of similar in design would be better.(or leave them in the nest box and seal up the hole a little) Carefully relocate the nest into the new home and leave them be for a while (no pun intended!!). If they settle in you can remove the lid and have a peek from time to time to see how they are getting on or maybe drop them a treat of sugar syrup ;)

Brilliant creatures, thanks for sharing.

ps did you do the hedge layering in your avatar?

It is actually a Bumble Bee,and,as far as I can see it is a 'Bombus terrestris' it is a worker and the Queen would have a Buff or Ginger tail, but, they are common in most gardens..............
