Parson Russell

Recommended Posts

Whatever happened to plain old 'Long legged' & 'Short legged' JRTs? Is there a difference? Some of my short type JRT's litter mates where what you'd call a 'Parson Russell'.

Is it just people breeding purely from the leggy types? :hmm: I always thought that 'Parson Russell' was just a name that the KC used for a leggy Russell.

Not knocking the dog though, just a few confused thoughts! :icon_redface:

There's a topic on here titled 'any parson russell owners' its worth a read, should clear up any confusions you've got!

Hope this helps!

Does the odd few cms matter on a tail.

I would say there is more than Russell in them Wexford, maybe from a few years back, looks a nice healthy litter though, be good to see how they turn out.

I believe so AngelicAcid, when you've got the colours they've got but the father is as pure a Parsons as u can get (no smart answers please, i know the originality of Parsons) and the mother i cud only trace bk 1 generation n i found that her father was Parsons n her mother was a wire-haired jrt or terrier..

Did my best tracing the ancestory of these pups before i bought them but there workers and if they work n work well, who cares what bit is in them here n there..

Atb mate..

not really. a "parson type" maybe leggy, but to be a "parson" they need to be registered and have pedgriee.

righto ;)

they're not registered cos the mother is half wire-haired terrier, ive said it in this post already, their worker bred not reg/show bred..

I have a Parsons (long legged!) Looking at the pure breed of parsons, like the breeder "Go to ground" they are stunning. I am always confussed buy the whole leg thing? IMO short legs don't look right, might be because im used to looking at mine! Parson breed them with longer legs so to keep up with the larger hounds and horses when out hunting, though still small enough to go to ground if needed.

As for the breed, can't beat them. The most loving, loyal, clever, hard, for ever full of beans, no fear, I can fight the world little dogs to will meet. My little PRT is as happy when sniffing out rabbits, chasing squirrels or killing a sock in the lounge! Never managed to wear her out, and even a hint of the "W" word shes at the door.

They will sneak into the smallest of warm places, mine will always sneak up on the lounge chair and lay on the left hand side, always?? Also she is into spooning! Will, given half a chance sneak under the quilt and roll up behind your legs!

The only down side (if you can call it that) is barking. Its breed into them to bark at the site of quarry! That bolloked up taking her shooting LOLOLOL!

Top little dog, im 6'4", never felt a tit walking her, always getting stopped by people for fusses.
